The breed survey (Körung) is an assessment of a qualified dog's strengths and weaknesses. The purpose is not only to select the most breedworthy dogs but also to make suggestions for best breeding uses of a dog. This could be 'use to improve pigmentation, working ability, etc'. The breed report (Körbericht) is the brief write-up of the results. A breed survey judge (Körmeister) assesses the dogs and writes the reports.
At least one performance title (HGH, IPO, PH), a show title, an endurance test, and health clearances (HD/ED) have to be passed before a dog qualifies for a breed survey. A breed survey includes judging of conformation and a 'courage test' (the latter introduced in 1967, I believe).
Breed surveys are held by the SV and those national GSD clubs that are in accord with it.
