Hi I'm new to this. I'm looking to purchase a GSD and have narrowed it down to a DDR breed type. There are so many breeders that advertise DDR how do you know who reputable breeder is. I live in Boston and wanted to purchase in New England but will travel for the right dog. I've owned Yellow Labs in the past and have an senior one now and would like pup to be with him and the family..I guess I'm just looking for some help on this matter from a community that has experience with this. thanks

I have been breeding East German bloodlines since 1984. My kennel is Konigsdorf. I am in NY right near the NY/VT/MA border. My email is maofryan@aol.com........I'd be happy to speak with you if you have interest. Sarah

Kevin Lanouette of Abby Kennel in Chelmsford, MA produces outstanding dogs. I believe mostly DDR/ East German lines mostly. I recently bred my bitch Jemma zur Bindenburg to Kevin's dog Vegas Del Lupo Nero. I should know monday if it is a successful breeding. My email is GregG1231@ gmail.com if you want to contact me.

Ryan Haus in MA, von Hena-C in Southern NH breed from DDR lines. Both breeders health test and do at least basic activities (TT, CGC, HIC) with their dogs. Many of their dogs do very well in pet homes.

You can also look into a 'wash out' from Fidelco in CT, if you are open to an older pup with basic manners and good upbringing. They breed from DDR and old Kirschental lines, a good combination. Their wash-outs at ca 9 months aren't suitable as guide dogs but their temperament is well known and a good match can be made.

gregg1231, Vegas Del Lupo Negro is not from DDR lines, he is from West German, Dutch and Belgian sports lines. A sister's pedigree is on pdb: http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/dog.html?id=1877108-viper-del-lupo-nero&p=long-generation&d=7

Zur Bindenburg also breeds from West German, Belgian, and Dutch sports lines, haven't seen any DDR in their pedigrees. Your Jemma's pedigree isn't in pdb, nor any J litter pedigree, you might wish to enter it here, then we can see.

Dogs from these competition sports lines I would not recommend for a first time GSD owner who had labs before and lives in a big city.

Thanks Living Fence, duly noted..What I'm looking for in order of importance is 1) temperament 2) health
3) protective instinct 4) looks and then there's other other things that we would want in our GSD that are not that important but would like.

Neither Fidelco or Abby Kennel have DDR dogs. DDR type dogs are few and far in between and not really what your looking for. Since looking for a pet and a first time owner find someone close who might be able to help as/if issues arise. Titles mean squat meet the dam and sire if you can walk them and play with them interact on your own then your likely to get what your capable of handling with the breeders help. Most any east line breeder will have what you need.
