I have a GSD with an ear tattoo that was pulled from a shelter trying to locate original owner. Tattoo # KS1066 or KS1C66. Can anyone help?

There may be more resources, esp. for military dogs.
Best of luck to you and the dog.

Your location, age of dog and pic, microchip?? ... My guess would be kennel name ( KS ) year of birth ( 2010 ), litter number 6 and puppy 6 in that litter. If the dog is younger than 4-5 years then my guess is not correct. Another possibility is KS (Kansas) and license # of the kennel (1066). Both AKC and UKC suggest a two letter follower by numerical digits 4 or more format so I suggest the KS1066 number is more likely. There could be more than 6 digits but most tattoo kits only allow one 6 digit set per tattoo so more than 5-6 digits is unusual. For those having done tattooes the use of more than 6 digits is a problem getting enough space in a young dog's ear as well as getting a good tattoo with more than 6 digits. Many tattooes are difficult if not impossible to read because the tattoo is poorly done and/or fades as the dog grows. I would expect 99% of dogs born in the USA that are registered are AKC or UKC registered. The remainder are mostly unregistered and I doubt a breeder not registering would bother to do a tattoo unless required by law. I would do the entire dogs body hoping for a microchip as they can migrate far away from the insertion point and check out any possible tattoo on the dogs inner thighs. If you are dealing with shelter dogs you know all this but I added it for anyone looking for ideas. Maybe a pic and age of the dog will help but the odds are not good.
