Anyone know of any breeders in or around north Carolina with a "decent" price for a puppy.

by hntrjmpr434 on 23 November 2015 - 00:11

What do you consider a decent price?
What do you want to do with the pup? What is your dog experience?

by zs2985 on 23 November 2015 - 01:11

Prolly between 300-750. Companion and it will be a working dog plus tracking dog. I have been around dogs since I was born from the age of 5 I helped my mom train our black labs as hunting dogs plus she worked for a kennel which I helped at from 7-10 years old raising Irish wolf hounds and briards so I am used to the herding breeds. We had briards as well as black labs, old English sheep dogs and had a black lab blue tick mix who was trained for tracking

I would wait and save up some money instead of searching for bargain puppy. You won't find anything of quality for your price range.

by zs2985 on 23 November 2015 - 02:11

What would you believe to be a decent price range? For the quality?

by hntrjmpr434 on 23 November 2015 - 02:11

Although a high price doesn't mean quality, I would be skeptical with anyone selling puppies for less than $1000. Good quality breeder with nice, health tested stock typically varies $1200 to $2000.
As I said, high price doesn't equal quality, so be sure to do your homework on any prospective breeders on your list.

Yea I have been looking around for a little bit. But if higher price doesn't mean quality then why would lower price mean skeptical quality? They could just be having the dog sitting around the kennel and haven't found a suitable home yet...yes? If you know any sites or anything that would help I am definitely interested

zs...Would you know the difference between a $300 dog and a $2000 dog? I mean what was advised to you above is the best advice anyone with knowledge can give...

Do you have any experience with Mali's? Have you been around them...Have you trained or been around anyone training them...They're not a breed for everyone...We're only telling you these things so when you do get one you will be aware of what to expect...

Have you gone to any training clubs where they're training Mali's...You might even find someone that's selling or has puppies...Most good breeders don't sell to just anyone...They want to know where their dogs/puppies are going and what your plans are for them...

We can talk and tell you all kinds of things but you won't know what a good Mali is like until you have hands-on experience...

Most good breeders of Mali's would be charging like said above...$1200 to $2000 and up...A lot of money not to get what you want or what you expect to get...So be sure of what you wish for...

ZS,

"it will be a working dog plus tracking dog"

I know what this means to me, but not what this means to you. Are you considering joining some type of working dog club. (AKC, PSA, Ring, IPO)
Are there any working dog clubs in your area? If so, go check them out, see if there are any Mali's there and observe. When you find some good clubs/dogs you like, see if the folks who own the dogs you like can help get you involved with a breeder.

To find clubs in your area search on the united Schutzhund Clubs of America website, the American Working Malinois website, DVG America. Hopefully someone will be training where you are located.

BTW-Where are you located?

Some one here in Brooklyn is selling a beautiful Mahogany 19 month old male. He is a half brother ( by same sire ) to the 2013 KNPV Champion Big Roy. The dog stands 26 inches and hes 65 lbs. Let me know. There he is below at 14 months old.
