A step in the right direction but mostly PC ( politically correct ) BS. The vets get to appear to be the good guys while still doing as they please. The agreement doesn't stop cropping of tails or ears as it is still legal unless the state pursues cases against owners and can prove animal cruelty charges which is unlikely. The veterinarians who won't do the ear or tail cropping procedure did not have to do it before and the agreement does not stop the practice and I doubt all veterinarians will stop doing the procedure anyway regardless of the "official position". The agreement has no legal standing that pressures owners or anyone .. pure BS. Unless the owner of the dog requesting the ear cropping turns in the veterinarian or tells PETA who did the cropping I see no way this smoke and mirrors can ever be enforced even if the state wanted to enforce it which they likely don't.

More government, more laws, government making more decisions for everyone. if you have piercings or tattoos are these next? Are they going to regulate how long a dogs nails are? are you going to be able to trim them short like they do for Dobermans in the show ring?

rtdmmcintyre, can't really compare a consented decision made by a human to get their ears/nose pierced/tattoos vs an unnecessary cosmetic tool to a dog.
If cropped ears and docked tails were so necessary and important, than why back in the day when breed was being developed, all these floppy eared and long tailed dogs were bred? Why was that not a trait that was bred out?

how much do you want the government regulating what you do? How far into your life are you wanting someone else to make decisions for you? Do you spay or neuter your dog? Is it really necessary or is it more of a matter of convenience so you don't have to worry about having to take care of your dogs so they don't breed? those are much more intrusive then an ear crop or a tail dock.

I think you are getting too passionate into this for what it is.
Yes I find spay/neuter a necessary service, unlike cropping/docking, which IMO is unnecessary to the dog.

My heart says that cropping is unnecessary, but my eyes say that f.e. Boxers and Dobermans look weird with floppy ears and long tales.
I grew up with cropped ears and tales, now it´s forbidden in my country for quite some years now. Difficult

I agree also that it is more aesthetically pleasing. I don't mind at all that people do it, but as I said before, I feel its unecessary.

I agree Susie. They, in my eyes, look better docked and cropped, but do looks really matter? Ehhh edgy topic.

Bubba - this is from BC, Canada, so not a "state" but a province.

I have mixed feelings about ear cropping, but do think that some breeds look "odd" without the crop, guess it's just what we're used to seeing. My concern is that tail docking, dew claw removal, etc. will be next for banning. When I worked at a vet clinic, we had several people bring in their dogs to have the tails docked, due to the dog injuring the tail on furniture etc. These were the typical "whippy-tail" breeds, many of which traditionally have their tails docked.
