I was just wondering if anyone has had this problem. A pregnant female with a prolapse uterus, hanging out of her virgina? And if anyone has information on delivering the puppies? One vet said she can not have them natural and another said she can.

I wouldn't even dream of trying to whelp her without a vet in attendance,at the very least. She should definately have a c-section IMO. She could die if you try to whelp her naturally. Is it worth the risk? Have you ever tried putting a uterus back in?
A very bad idea to try this without a vet. Very bad.
Too many things can go wrong.

go to the vet now. You will lose your female and all of the puppies if you don't. Spending time on the computer chat room instead of speaking to your vet about this - really bad idea.

This has been going on for 3 weeks and have been in contact with my vet every day. And we are doing just what he says. And he has seen her several times, the prolapse has been put back in and her virgina has had a few stiches in it to keep it from coming out, but it continues to come out. I have put it back in myself with my vets advice. He told me that it is not life threating we just have to keep it moist with K-Y jelly and keep her in a crate and when she goes into labor call him and he will meet us at the clinic day or night. He is on call 24/7 and is a very good vet that cares about my dog and has been telling me what to do. I was just wanting to know if anyone else has had this happen. We are taking the best care for our female that is possible and did not want to be bashed on this site. We were wanting to know the experience of someone that has had this happen.

Only with our sheep, never with any other animals thank goodness. There are devices made to hold the uterus in place for livestock, don't know if there is any such thing for dogs.

I have had it happen lots and lots of times with the prolapse , but not with a dog. I for one am not bashing you. Just be careful. Stitching is fine in the interim but rarely does it stay in very well or very long. I would put a few external stiches as well. Will your vet do that? You don't say if the stitches are internal or external so I'm guessing. When is her due date? Will you have a c-section then? I guess I misunderstood and thought she was having them now. My mistake.
It is probably not life-threatening yet ,but when whelping comes..........
what will you do?

Valentine,
I have never experienced or heard of that. That is awful, and I just wanted to chime in and wish the best for you and your female.
What all did the vet say? Does she have to be spayed afterward? Most likely, right? What causes that condition? When is she due to have these puppies? Does this cause her any discomfort? Is she bothered by it?
Sorry, I have many (dumb) questions but I would like to know.
Please keep us informed.
All the best for you.

I would like everyone to know that the puppies are fine. An ultrasound has been done and they are doing great and so is the mother. I have heard it happening to live stock but never knew it could happen to a dog either, now I know it can. I would check to see if there is a device to hold it in but she is so close to delivery there is really no need, but will keep that in mind in case this happens again thanks for the info animules. Our vet said that it sometimes happens to females when they go into heat, but uncommon during pregnancy. When she goes into labor we will have her at the vet to see if she can have them naturally if not he would have to do a c-section, he seems to think that she could have them naturally since the prolapse comes from the top and the pups come from the bottom. It is scary to see for the first time. I rushed her to the vet the second I saw it. I have done some research on this and have a better understanding, she will have to be spayed after she wheens the pups. Eichenluft---I do not spend time on the computer in chat rooms like you do, you may want to know the facts before you judge someone, and do some research on this so if it happens to you you will have a better understand on what it is, but thanks for your input........

Valentine,
sorry, we posted at the same time. Please don't feel bad. People were just worried about your female.
When is she due?
Good Luck to you.

Valentine, sounds like you are on top of it.
BTW those devices designed to keep the uterus in pop out pretty regularly too. Don't waste your time or money on them unless your vet feels it's a great idea.
