I was posting on another thread where people were making scary suggestions such as "breeding show lines into working lines"... I guess they should hear this interview and understand how difficult it is to produce solid working animals. If their goal is showing... then keeping breeding those "beautiful reds with tremendous gait"...

Funnily enough, I was able to understand the American pretty well, but had problems to understand the German... 

What´s the essence out of this interview?

You need good dogs for breeding good dogs.
You need to look for puppies showing natural drives.
You need good helpers able to develop the dogs later on.
You need a good team working together.
You should start "training" as early as possible,
SUPPORTING the puppy, not SUPPRESSING.

Only a dog able to work "under pressure" ( for Schaub it´s the overall obedience within high level IPO routine ) is a good dog..."drives" shown in green dogs are not enough for verification.

That´s my personal favorite - A LOT OF DOGS LOOK GOOD AS LONG AS THERE IS NO PRESSURE = you need to TRAIN your dog to know about its character.

 

TP - not going to argue with you about "lines" - by sticking to "working" lines only you are missing some good dogs, but that´s not my problem.

Pure BS. there is nothing about a title or being "high in trial" that makes a dog better for breeding?? If you want to believe in fairy tales and BS I suggest you watch "Alpha Dogs" which is a TV series about a bunch of fat dumb asses claiming to be the "best of the best" at training dogs.   It is a hoot .. if proficiency in a sport made humans better for breeding then all of NFL and NBA would be billionaires and Congressmen or the President would be Tom Brady.  Why does being high in trial matter and there is no biological reason to choose a dog for breeding because of some proficiency in a sport.  Breeding dogs for IPO is not better for the GSD as a breed ... it is better for the SV, WUSV, and the IPO crowd which has a small following which is getting smaller each year.  IPO is a sport and to be high in trial means as much as saying the winner of the "Masters" golf tournament is the best human being on the planet.

Bubba, just put some real pressure on your dogs while they are in drive, and you´ll know what Stefan is talking about.

Asking a dog to leave the love suit is no pressure in this case...

Bubba, before ASSuming about what Stefan breeds for and produces, perhaps you should take a better look into his stock. He produces more than just sporty dogs.
