I am trying to figure out about the registering of our gsd. His first name is Aurik (Auri for short version) We was told we could put whatever name on the end. I don't know German. Our last name is England and would like for it to be in his name. Also we are naming our kennel after his brother so.. would I need to put our kennel name with his or the kennel name he came from. I am new to this so please forgive. Thanks! Any help would be appreciated!

Where did the dog come from? Do you plan on breeding from this dog? If so, I would be suspect of any "breeder" who didn't have a kennel name they wanted attached to something they bred...

Normaly a pup carrys the name of the kennel it was born into, did the breeder not have a kennel name ? It sounds like the breeder does not care what name you choose, but if the breeder had a kennel name I would still use that since the pup was not of your own breeding,2nd if your going to pick England as your kennel name then research the name and try to make sure no one else is using it already or you may make someone very unhappy third if the kennel name England is used then the first pups and all pups born there after in your kennel should be using England as the last part of the dogs name.

The AKC litter registration carries the sire and dam as well as usually carrying the kennel name of the breeder. However if the breeder has not already registered the puppy fully with AKC ( litter registration only ) then it is usually a good idea to ask the breeder for permission to register under another kennel name. The kennel name can go anywhere you want it and does not necessarily go last .. the Germans use a convention using "of, from, from the, of the" and so on. An example would be "Aurik of Seattle" or "Aurik from Ohio" or "Aurik of the seven mountains". Breeders from other countries use different conventions. I prefer the kennel name first as is done in some countries such as kennel name followed by Aurik or kennel name 's indicating origin through a possessive Aurik. I use WarBonnet as one of my kennel names so in your case it would be WarBonnet Aurik or WarBonnet's Aurik. Best to check the AKC registry, google the kennel name that you wish to use online, and check on the PDB if the kennel name you want to use is already copyrighted or in use by another kennel just to avoid confusion. England is a fairly common name so England's Aurik may not work or Aurik von England is likely also used by another kennel. The AKC also limits the length of kennel names to 15 total characters including spaces.

Thank you so much everyone! The Breeder does have a kennel name that I purchased him from. And yes I plan to breed him. I was just confused on the registration naming because there are so many different ways that it is talked about. I just wanted to make sure I did it the correct way. I can use the kennels name I purchased him from but I also ask if I could use my own kennel name and was told that would be fine. But I am fine with using theirs. And I'm sure that is what I will do now. I have seen so much about the von and vom and it being gender related and then it not being gender related and about the haus at the end of your name and it got confusing which it was. I just wanted some clarification. Thank you so much for all your help!

Still skeptical of a breeder who is ok with not using their kennel name....

If you are unsure on how to name your dog, perhaps breeding isn't something you are quite ready to do. I encourage you to find a good club, mentor, etc and continue research.

Why do you want to use a German kennel name for an American kennel? Be proud of your language and use an English name...
I´d keep the original kennel name for your pup, over here we can´t change names at all.
In case your pup will be breedworthy in the future, think about your own kennel name, because as soon as you start breeding YOU are the breeder and the pups resulting out of your breedings deserve YOUR kennel name.
Whatever you do, please test your dog prior to breeding for at least HD and ED, and never forget, that the German Shepherd dog is a working dog breed.
You are able to take part in a lot of different dogsports, be it IPO or agility, or something else.
Only a small percentage of all German Shepherd dogs are "breedworthy", just be honest to yourself and to the breed.
