I have fallen in love with a bitch in Germany who is 1700 Euros minus the flight costs and anything else I don't know about. Pls educate me on what it will cost (and don't be conservative )to fly her out to the Pacific NW...hidden costs, "might just have" costs, etc...I would really like to have this dog, but have NEVER imported before. Yes, I am experienced GSD owner. Isn't it stressful for them to fly so far? Thank you!

Its usually the price for the dog and shipping is always extra. Puppy around 380 to 400 euro for shipping. Customs fee of about $25 USD, Terminal fee of about $15 to $20 USD. Seller may charge you for the bescheingung about $15 which you will need for AKC Reg. You need to clarify with the seller if the 1700 Euro is shipping included in that price before you wire any monies. I think maybe that is the total price they gave you for dog and flight to USA.

Thank you Vom, I rechecked the email, and it states "1700 E for the bitch, transportation and flight cost extra". This is verbatim. So I would imagine that total costs would be around 3000-3500k US dollars correct?

Forgot to add that the bitch is also 14 mos old. Thanks.

Will be about $900 for shipping an adult dog in a 500 crate. I paid for my own bescheingung about $20-$25 if I recall correct. Then you will need to AKC and DNA if you are going to sell her at a later date or breed. $35 and $40 each. Ask then to quote you a price from their end. A year ago I paid $850 for the crate, them dropping her at the airport and the flight. It was all together and I didn't know anything about Customs so that muct have been included in that $850. Fuel prices are more so I would estimate $900 or they are asking too much.

Tirza, The dog will need to be flown in a 500 series crate, since she is an adult. This will cost you approximately 650 euros, including crate. Ask your seller how much they charge for getting the pet passport and international health certificate (usually about 50-80 euros). Transportation---this can be tricky. Where exactly does your seller live, and how far from the airport in Frankfurt. Is he going to deliver the dog to the airport, or do you need to have GKAir Freight do it for you? That can vary, depending on how far they have to go to get the dog. Costs on this end? Customs broker fee is $250 through Barthco, if your customs office closes before the flight arrives in from Germany via whatever port of entry (if your aiprort is not one of these). AKC Bescheinigung needed for AKC registration is another approx. 27 euros; it would be wise to have your Seller give the transfer to the SV and make sure Sabine Leib has it at the AKC prior to shipping the dog. (her email address is akc@schaeferhunde.de and she speaks English very well.) Other costs to account for? Possibly having to have the dog kenneled over night, if there is some issue with connecting flights, etc. This is usually $75-$150 per night, depending on the airport. Total costs (not including possible kenneling or transportation to the airport, since I do not know how far, or if the seller will transport at what cost or if you need a transport company, etc., and also does not include the customs broker fee of $250 or actual customs fee of approximately $25-$35) are $950, in addition to the 1700 euros ($2230) for the cost of the dog. So, you are pretty much right on in your calculations on how much it will cost to import this female. Good luck, and let us know how she turns out if you indeed decide to purchase her! :) -Melanie

OMG...this is so exciting and scarry at the same time! Thanks to all for your expert help, so much appreciated. The sellers have now offered to fly her to Frankfurt for me. This would be approx 380 kilometers from their home. They are now asking for 2200 Euros, stating that I "will not have to pay for the transport to the airport extra" Their friend is flying out a dog next week and they said it all costs for him would be 570 Euros. Please help me in my ignorance here (and thank you for your patience) WHAT is a Bescheinigung? I just asked if she will come with her pink papers. So do I pay them for a crate or? Thanks again, T

Tirza, Please feel free to email me privately, and perhaps with a few more details, I can direct you. :) A Bescheinigung is (in layman's terms) a transfer of ownership certification. The AKC needs this piece of paper showing when the dog was transferred, by whom, to whom, the breeder of the dog's name, name, color, date of birth and SV registration number of the dog. -Melanie
