Hello all, I have a puppy 4 weeks of age and he all of the sudden has diarrhea. He is being feed by us since he was born due to mom having a large litter. He did good on the supplemental food until now. He is not acting sick or lethargic, his BM is just loos/liquid. I appreciate any suggestions.

Suggest Vet immediately---- puppy can dehydrate and pass away in 24 hours or less. Interim suggest pedialite (sp) baby formula with electrolites. Stool sample to check for parasites--- possible coccidia?? Wishing the best of outcomes----- Morgan

It could be a number of things. Did you just introduce it to food/gruel? Did you just worm it? How about the water source...could it be contaminated? Deffinetly sould seek out a Vet with a stool sample.

Vet first, with stool sample.. if that yields no answers, probiotics are good and yogurt/pumpkin as well as pedialyte, as previously suggested.. Switching foods and weaning, as well as parasites and/or bacteria will frequently cause this, and water supply contamination is a biggie. I prefer to use "Lixit" automatic water faucets, which provides a constant clean water supply -- no standing water for the puppies to walk in with poopy dirty feet, or birds to bathe and/or poop in it.

Good sign the pup is acting fine but I would take no chances and visit a vet asap. Is he still eating/drinking normal?

I visit this site and i try not to be ibdignant - this is the second post/ question in a day _ what ails you folks ? if you cannot do a stool sample .. if you cannot understand what diarrhea menas in w baby pup and what to do about the situation that you have to go onto an internet site for advice -- WHAT IN THE WORLD ATE YOU DOING BREEDING - ok spilled milk ... - now bewfore you even thought or had time to make your post .. WHY HAVE YOU NOT ALREADY TALKED/CONSULTED WITH A VET OR HAVE THE PUP SEEN BY A VET. ?? does the general population lack common sense ... or is this a ploy to have stupid qustions asked to get this forum site more popular -- if so .. i suggest less advwertising to sell dogs , which this site has primarily become and more intelligent / informative exchanges in dialogue -- pisses me off that naybody thinks they can breed if this is on the up and up , and you people have no clue -- let the professional / experienced people do the breeding

All you have to do is seach the interent on different breeds and you can see the literally thousands of people selling pups and that makes it easy to understand that many of them likely have no clue what they are doing. If nothing else sound advise may help the pups not suffer.

ALPHAPUP.........Who said I didn't make a appointment with the Vet before I postet? I was just looking for some advise awaiting to go to the Vet. Anyway I guess you were born breeding dogs right? Never were a beginner in anythig huh? You don't know nothing about me to judge me like you did. You have now idea what kind of dogs I own or how I take care of them so don't put me in a big pot with all the screw ups out there who just breed to make buck!

firefly -- the comments are a generality -- there are many that come to this forum with questions that obviuosly show lack of experience in what they are doing . secondly -- for medical diagnosis -- an internet site is not where to seek help ! perhaps you do not have 24 hour , 7 days a wek emerg. vet services -- but those that do should direct their questions to qualified vets. secondly -- if you did make an appointment to the vet -- you still reside in igmnorance and still i state my case to you in specifics -- you do not know what you are doing and therfore should not be breeding -- and for the rercord -- i got my medical degree and owned /trained GSDs most of my life [ 30 + years ] before i even thought myself worthy enough to start a breeding program --that is to say .. i made it my business to know what i should before i even bred my first litter !
