I have a question.
I found a nice female that I'm looking to purchase. I need to have her hips xrayed before I buy her.
The current owner says that someone before them let her get pregnant on her first heat a couple years ago.
Does anyone know if having a litter at such a young age compromise her hips?
I've looked around but can't find any information on this subject.
I'd appreciate your opinion.
Thaks,

Let the seller provide you with X Rays prior to purchase. Keep in mind this dog is going thru its second owner as you have stated.
This has been discussed in previous posts and the above answers are correct.
If she was going to be OFA good you would be lucky of OFA fair now.
I would not buy her unless she gets OFA certified "Good".

No?
No she will pass or
No, she won't pass?
Von Bunhaus,
I'm not paying anything for her. The dog wasn't a throw away first owner was terminally ill, probably why she wasn't watched closer, I don't really know.
Her current owner's husband is deployed to Iraq for a third time. She's having to get rid of the dog as she needs to move home with her parents.

The only way is to take her for X Rays and then you will know. Hopefully you will make a good and lasting home for her. Best of Luck.
Yeah, I know I need to have her hips checked I was just curious if anyone has had a dog pass hips even though they were bred at an early age.
I have no plans to breed her, she'll live here on our ranch and work livestock if its her bag.

Well I don't know if she'll pass or not since she hasn't been xrayed yet. I personally do not think her having a litter at her first season would "make" her dysplastic if she's genetically programmed to have normal hips. Xray her. If OFA or whoever you are planning to consult gives her a normal evaluation, then I'd consider her to be free of HD.
If you're not planning to use her for breeding, her hips do not need to be perfect and in that case I myself would be a lot more concerned about her temperament than her hips. I've had pets that did not pass OFA but they were still great pets.
Good luck.
I purchased a female who had a litter prior to my purchase, she OFA at excellent even after that litter. You should not be worried about her failing but if your purchase is requiring her to pass for breeding or etc, ask that be part of the purchase price and the deciding factor as to if you will purchase, most would be happy to do this, I would if it meant was the only thing holding up a sale, I wouldn't want someone to buy her and be unhappy and come back on me.
Early breeding will not give a dog H.D. There are things that can exasperate the hip condition, but will not give her H.D. Go to the OFFA web site. Lots of real info on the subject, not just hearsay. Lots of research and many years of working with hips. They will answer questions. Obviously you do not want to subject the girl to poor enviromental conditions, poor food, early pregnacies, but as has been mentioned get her exrayed and put all concerns to rest. Good luck with her, hope it works out.
