wondering what your advise would be on raising two puppies at the same time or should you raise one at a time ie waiti until one pup is six months before you purchase another pup

I've been told not to raise two at a time. Supposedly they tend to bond closely with eachother, when you want each one to bond with you, or so I've been told. I purchased one pup then purchased another after 1 year. It worked well for me. Although the first dog was not capable of being more than a pet he was pretty well trained in OB by the time the second.

I suppose the descision would also depend on your plans for both pups (pet or sport), how their housed (kennel or house) and how much time you have to devote to each pups training.

Two pups from the same litter are already bonded to each other.. it's not impossible but doing one pup right takes so much time, it's a huge undertaking.. There are people who say it can be done and I say good for them but certainly a new/less experienced person would be doing a good thing by concentrating on raising 1 pup at a time

I know there are people on the board who have raised littermates. I have been around dogs since I was a kid, self trained all of our dogs, of course they were pets/companions. I made the mistake of getting pups six months apart. That was difficult enough I can't imagine what it would be like with littermates. I would wait until you first dog is at least a year old before adding another. Val

Learn from my mistake! The training actually went well because they had a competition against each other. They entertained each other and I actually found it EASIER having 2. BUT! I always had them together and when I went to a S&R PR function, I took one at a time. They acted lethargic, down in the dumps and were NO fun at all. The minute they were together, all was well. I realized they had become co-dependent and I had to spend the next months training one at a time.

they are not from the same litter but are two weeks apart from each other

Simple solution, house them seperat and train one after the other, not both out at the same time. It's not impossible or harder. Your out there puting the tools to work on one. When he is done put him up and grab the next one and repeat. It's not rocket science. Think about how little time a pup can focus on work anyway. You can't do more than 15 minutes and even that is too long at first. Train 5-10 minutes each 2-3 times a day. Before going to work, when you get home, or on lunch, whenever you have 20-30 minutes to spare.

I purchased and have raised two litter mates from 8 weeks to their present age of 3 years old. I have male and female littermates. My advice is simple, separate as much as possible. When you go to training, only take one. Alternate the next day with the other puppy. When you go on long walks or hiking, leave one home. During the day leave one in the kennel and one in the house with the family. It has been a great experience and a lot of fun for me and my family. I have had no real problems.
