Hi,

Im from Brasil, and I m looking to buy a GSD for my farm , where I spend my weekends. Im looking for a good companion dog, sociable but also a good guard for the house, particularly for night guard. Im confused about to buy a puppy or a young trained dog. And I would like suggestion where to buy them, because here in Brazil there is not confiable breeder that i know. Any advice?? tks

Looking to import from the US or would you like to get something from South America?
Are you wanting a dog that will engage(bite) an intruder, or just bark and alert that someone is there?

What will the dog do during the week when you are not at the weekend farm, how will it live?

Have you considered a Presa or a Dogo bred for man work?

You are in Brazil, forget the GSD and buy a Fila...there is not a better protection dog that does not need to be trained for protection!

A isolated remote dog left to itself during the week is a crappy security system and no life for a dog.

I get requests like this every day, could make a living from sales of such dogs, I leave the money and the doomed dog to the unethical heartless charlatans and clueless owners.

''Looking to import from the US or would you like to get something from South America? Are you wanting a dog that will engage(bite) an intruder, or just bark and alert that someone is there?''

Can be any place in the world.... Dont need to bite, more for alert, I have an old ( almost deaf and blind ) security guy there, its only to put fear in someone looking to invade there...

''What will the dog do during the week when you are not at the weekend farm, how will it live? Have you considered a Presa or a Dogo bred for man work?'''

We have people all day during week working there, the dog will be fed and have people to play with.... I prefer a GSD, first because the main goal isn't to be the perfect dog guard, but a mix ( companion and guard ), the ''guard''goal is more to put fear in any strange people who wants to approach the house, second because GSD is my preferred breed....

''You are in Brazil, forget the GSD and buy a Fila...there is not a better protection dog that does not need to be trained for protection!'''

Lol, Fila is an extremely option, beautiful dog, but to much angry...

''A isolated remote dog left to itself during the week is a crappy security system and no life for a dog. I get requests like this every day, could make a living from sales of such dogs, I leave the money and the doomed dog to the unethical heartless charlatans and clueless owners.'''

Dont worry, there will be 24/7 people there with the dog, and all them love dogs.... Obs: I have there an English pointer and a GSD with severe elbow dysplasia : ( , The pointer is an amazing friendly dog, but very fearful lol, the GSD is very intelligent , friendly, loyal.... but the dysplasia limits him...

Good to hear your plan and needs and the support for the dog, there are many excellent breeders to choose from. Puppy or mature dog? How active? A lot of high end breeders produce very active dogs that need experienced handlers, seems you want a no fuss dog with intimidating looks and bark??

I'll list a few kennels that almost everyone knows about haha, Jinopo is an awesome one, they're located up in Czech. They have both pups and adult dogs. They also have many dogs with a wide variety of purposes, Jiri, the man who runs the kennel is honest and nice to deal with. Some of the prices run high, but I believe they're worth it. His website: www.jinopo.cz
Another one I like is eurosportk9.eu, located in Slovakia. Another trust worthy kennel with both dogs and pups. He also has many dogs available with many different purposes. Some of his prices are high as well, but again worth it.
I've recently imported one female from Marsyas Kennel in Czech. Her prices are a bit lower and has very nice dogs. I believe she has dogs and puppies currently available with a wide range of uses, though I think most are for sport. She has a facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/marsyas.kennel

I'll leave it to others to give you recommendations, and caution you against one: Do NOT purchase a dog from Griffin Shepherd Kennels, or Augusto Deoliveira. Please see this page for the specifics as to why. While I would ordinarily not even think of mentioning him to someone outside of the US, your location could make you a tempting target for him--he's enough of a con artist that I can easily imagine him figuring on getting a trip to Brazil to visit his relatives [assuming his claims to that extent are true] by offering to personally deliver a puppy to you. Heaven forbid!

I may get slaughtered by everyone for saying this.....
But if you don't have a dog that has to bite, why not go to a shelter there and find something? I'm sure you could find something intimidating enough looking that will bark and alert on strangers. JMO.
