Anyone read the 3 book set called the Handbook of Applied Dog Behavior?

About $350 for the set, trying to decide if they are worth the investment.

I can think of lots better ways to spend 350 bucks. You probably know more about dog behavior than those three books can tell you...besides, by the time the third book is read, the information from the others will be jumbled up in the brain. Lol

Very true, thank you!

I own them, I needed them for college and they are very good books pending on your needs.  I suggest that you treat them as purely "reference manuals", not as "training guides", not "best practices books".  Its unlikely that you will need all three volumes, especially if you are not using the books as citation source for publishing white papers, academic papers or presenting at conferences.  Pending on what you are doing with dogs, 75% of the contents won't be applicable to your training goals and/or client needs.  Google Books has posted some of the pages and should give you a very clear idea of their contents:

Last, buy used, it should be no more than $300 USD to get all three volumes.

Its because these 3 books have not been reprinted in large numbers and are still used as a citations source for grad students, professors and researchers.  I wouldn't consider these mere "college texbooks", they are much, much more than that.

Questions asking about the contents of these books seems to pop up frequently on PDB.  I say if anyone here is truly interested in Animal Behavior, they should get "An Introduction to Behavioral Ecology by Nicholas B. Davies , John R. Krebs and Stuart A. West", first.  This book will introduce the terminology needed to navigate the texts in the Handbook of Applied Dog Behavior, volume 1-3.

So, if you can't slog through reading "An Introduction to Behavioral Ecology" you definitely won't make it through the Handbooks of Applied Dog Behavior.
