I have been considering switching over from kibble to an all RAW diet and know that a lot if not most of you feed raw. Can you provide any advise where to start? I am googling around and there is a ton of information out there but i am so new to it i dont know what is good or bad info... And before you flame away about me not searching the PDB forum, please see the screen shot below. My searching only returned results that are from 2011 and prior.

Do you guys have any recipes that you are willing to share?

Are you on Facebook? If so, join Raw Feeding Friends.

There are a few phone apps that allow you to plug in your dog's weight, and tell you how much of each group they need.

Good luck!

A lot of the talk about Raw feeding is mixed in with those who ask about the best kibble or if the dog has a health problem so you may look into topics along those lines.

I feed Raw but don't make it a big deal, to many dogs to do all the stuff you will hear about. Been feeding raw 20 years all dogs healthy and well.

PM me if you like.

@hntrjmpr434 - Thank you, i will check out that FB group...

I have been feeding Green Tripe mix (Green Tripe, Muscle Meat, Heart, Tongue, Trachea/Gullet and Ground Bone.) for a bit. I usually throw a hand full in with the kibble. After looking at the site i get the tripe from (http://www.freshrawdogfood.com/) I see they have some pre-mixed stuff already.. Now i am wondering if should just buy this or if i should go the rout of going to the butcher and getting all the ingredients and mixing it my self or doing pre mixed LOL

I would feed raw, but I am so concerned about making a mistake and not having a balanced enough diet.  I knew of a breeder who fed nothing but chicken, they had tons of fertility and health problems because their dog's diets weren't balanced.

If I were to feed raw, I would use something that is balanced and complete, like K9 Kravings.

I'm not sure what your budget is or how many dogs you are feeding, but getting raw from a butcher at a store is going to be costly. Look for co-ops, hopefully there will be one in your area. That route will be much more afforable, and they typically have much more of a variety of things than a grocery butcher.

How many dogs are you feeding?

I would go at first with K9 Kravings it is mostly balanced;  or Bravo;  are my too favorites;  you want balanced and species appropriate dog food.  In otherwards not cat food or zoo animal feed.  Then if you feel like it, venture out on your own somewhat;  I now use raw ground turkey, covered with a little green gravy;  Honest Kitchen Love.  About a total of l l/4 pound ground meat and about 1/4 to 1/3 cup Love poured over the top this is for one meal and the Honest kitchen is for balance.

AM kibble.  PM raw.  So far, so good.  Good luck  Nan  The kibble is for vitamins and a bit of extra nutrition...

I liked Jane Anderson's PWD information, Save our Shepherds is good info;  Check out K9 Kravings website and they will ship or tell you where you can get it;  also some weight and measure information for feeding foods;  if I think of anything else I will continue.  Good luck.  Nan

I was not fond of just going to the grocery store and buying raw meats for my guys, although I did it for 5 years and then went to a premade mixed formula;  ships frozen.

My guys did not do very well on the leg quarters as they aged;  or as they turned into seniors, was finding large pieces of bone barfed up "whole" in the yard.  I did have several seniors at that time though,  so  just a word of caution.  Nan

I will look into the k9 Kravings..... I am going to be feeding two GSDs this way and have found a local butcher (not a store butcher) to get things like Chicken backs, chicken and turkey necks and other meat products pretty cheap. I was just given a 'General Guidelines' document written up in 2003 by the Eye Dog Foundation. it basically states that 60% of the diet should come from Raw meaty bones: Chicken backs, necks and Whole wings; Turkey necks or beek necks but no pork necks and ox tails. 40% should come from: 10-15% Muscle meat and fish & 10 - 15% Raw fruit and vegetables and 10-15% RAW Offal or internal organs. Plus a list of supplements such as Essen Fatty Acids, Vitamins C, B & E and Kelp or Alfafa...

This was great info on the sheet, but now i am not clear on how to prepeare it LOL!! do i just blend it up in a food processor and make patties or what....

Please know that i really appriciate all the info shared

You can just give it to them as is, no need to blend.

There are a few sites that have good menu plans. There is a GSD rescue group that has some wacky stuff on it but their raw recommendations are pretty good. I believe it's saveourshepherds.org

Vet said feeding raw is the worst thing ever for dog

" Vet said feeding raw is the worst thing ever for my own pocket "  .

We only purchase human grade meats ,  From Tesco Young chicken / Adult wings .  Whole ducks , Mackerel from Norway , I gut it and take out the gills . Olive oil , one segment of garlic per week . Beef rib bone end's from Australia  , Raw beef from OZ  , half priced than the Chinese Beef .

From another supplier i buy duck hearts , tried with the duck liver but they get the runs .

Buy fresh beef  , Liver and kidney , Heart  from a place that sells fresh cow meat . In the past i have fed cow lung and the tract " but i read this is not healthy for the dog ,, so i stopped  "  ,  Once a month , i will buy a couple of rib bones with meat .

Sometimes i sprinkle chopped dried oregano .

A few months ago ,, i met someone that say they dog refuse to eat raw food  ,, First i chop up some liver and fry in a little  garlic  ,,after the fried liver cooled down ,   i mix to the raw chicken bone and meat ,, after the 3rd time the dog would eat raw chicken
