GSD in comparison a White Swiss Shepherd - Page 1

Hello,

As some know I have my Becky, my first German Shepherd, but she is actually my boyfriend's dog and not realy mine so to speak.

I am not currently looking for a new dog, I can not afford for another (already have Becky and two more mutts, they all need vet care, food, time and dedication, I have no money, time or space to have another dog), but I was not 100% in line when we choose the German Shepherd, not knew well the breed, most GSD I know are fearful or aggressive animals (or both), since I have Becky fell in love with breed but there are still some breeds that I really like it a lot, they are:

• Estrela Mountain Dog, a portuguese breed, they guard herds since ancient times, it is said that is one of sheepdog breeds oldest in the world, spectacular watchdogs, but affectionate and calm with family and even have this beautiful "teddy bears" look.
  Height at the withers: Males: 65-73 cm Females: 62-69 cm Weight: Males: 45-60 kg Female: 35-45 kg (small little dogs )
  
• White Swiss Shepherd, you all know it;
• Portuguese Water Dog, my boyfriend hates them so out of the picture;

The portuguese breeds I know some dogs and have some knowledge about them, the WSS not so much, I know a breeder and have visited the dogs and even went with them to a show and spend the day with them, but it is not the same as owning one.

In comparison whith the GS how diferent are they? I know some say one came from the other but that was a loooong time ago and the breed changed a lot. My impression is that they are sweeter and most family oriented than the other.

Only for the sake of curiusidade, what is your opinion of the matter?

I will some day have a Estrela but also really really love the looks of the White Swiss Shepherd and loved the ones I know, there is only 3 registed legal breeders in Portugal and the other ones live in the other side of the country so not easy to go meet then. (Apart from that once asked one of them about breed info and prices of his puppys and he replied "You can not afford my price" NOT EVEN KNOW ME !"#$$"#%)
