Dawulf

by Dawulf on 01 June 2015 - 20:06

My uncle lives/helps out on a farm where they raise chickens and ducks (among other things), and he brings us over fresh farm eggs. Kinda neat to see them all pre-bleached and un"store-ified". All those different color shades, sizes and textures are kinda neat. Anyway, he mentioned last weekend that they have a lot of extra duck eggs. I've been giving Qira an egg on her food every day, and was wondering if there's any difference between feeding duck eggs or chicken eggs, or if they're all the same.

Thanks Thumbs Up

Duck eggs are more nutritious, more Omega 3 fatty acids. If I had access to farm raised duck eggs, I would use them over chicken eggs Teeth Smile

Dawulf:  I think an egg every day is too much, particularly if you use the duck eggs which are usually much bigger.  Maybe a couple days a week would be OK, raw egg whites;  yolks are OK;  just no egg whites should not be given to puppies either.  Just my opinion, but don't want to over use them either.  Nan

Whoops, sorry Nan, we posted at the same time. You think every day is too much (it usually winds up being more like 5/7 days, 'cause I get rushed and forget the egg, but...)? I don't give her the shell, just the goop and yolk.

Yeah I think daily is too much;  and puppies should not get egg whites, yolks are OK.  Just to clarify.  I think a couple of days a week is OK;  especially with Orijen dog food, rich anyway and adding anything to their foods makes it even richer.  Again,  just my opinion, but....Nan

I agree with Nans.

I give my guys chicken eggs 3 to 4x a week. Maybe with the duck eggs, I would do 2 to 3, especially since you feed a good food Teeth Smile

Sounds good. Thanks guys. :)

If I knew how to send you guys some, I would! They apparently have a couple refrigerators full (though my uncles is a chronic exagerrator so who knows) of duck/chicken eggs. I have to say, it weirded me out the first time I cracked open one of the eggs he brought over - the yolk was super dark orange but apparently the darker they are, the healthier the chicken. Interesting! There's also occaisionally one with some crazy texture on the shell, or the other day I opened one and it was only half full. Makes you wonder how many eggs get wasted when they head to stores!

Nan, Dawulf's dog turns 8 in October. Not a puppy.

Why don't you feed puppies the egg whites and I feed shell and all adults and pups.

If I make to many hard boiled eggs then I throw them as a game and they catch them what's funny though is when you that with them raw.

I agree with the Duck eggs recommendations
