Outrage and confusion over atheist scientist Richard Dawkins’ recent comments about “mild pedophilia” continue to abound. His contentious statements were made in a recent Times Magazine interview during which he discussed the sexual abuse he experienced as a child.

Yes it does.  The further one gets from God and His laws, the more demented and immoral a society gets.

God help us all.

From your one article;

The atheistic notion that life emerged randomly from ancient Earth’s prebiotic slime, coupled with the Darwinian belief that humans are no more than intelligent chimpanzees, leaves us morally bereft. In a society whose schools consider it a noble undertaking to teach a teenage boy how to use a condom, but streng verboten to teach him that God has forbidden us to steal or murder, how can one anticipate anything other than a gaping and ever-expanding moral sinkhole? While there exist real challenges in determining exactly what God requires of us in the moral sphere, let us, at least, agree on the following before it is too late, and move forward from there:

  • All men are created in the image of God and are therefore inherently and intrinsically precious.
  • All men have been endowed by God with unalienable rights and among these are the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
  • Thou shalt not murder.
  • Thou shalt not steal.
  • Thou shalt not bear false witness.
  • Thou shalt not commit adultery, incest, or bestiality.
  • Thou shalt not have sex with children, and if you do you will be looked upon as a disgusting and contemptible criminal and will be treated as such.
  • Thou shall teach these laws to your children.

No! If what you 2 are saying is true, then how come many many many Christians molest children, commit incest, murder, steal, commit adultery? Considering Christianity is the number 1 religion in America and the populations who commit these acts far out number atheists. So, there are many Christians doing all the above.

Atheism does lead people to think of death though.

RS, why would that make you bereft?  What is so alarming about being one of an infinitesimal number of beings who are so evolved, you can look out on the universe and understand it?  To me, that's awe inspiring!  It shows how far we've come to get to where we are today!  That's pretty amazing in my book.  We have built ourselves to where we are today, from a very ancient and very simple beginning!  We have survived insurmountable odds just to exist, let alone exist in the highest known form of evolved beings!  WE did this, humanity, building one generation upon the next, from climate-controlled living spaces to fine arts to rapid and mass transportation, all possible because of one simple trait we have that none others do, speech and the ability to leave behind the wisdom obtained to this point.  It's always the wisdom obtained to this point.  We can't go back and forget what we know, save mass extinction with loss of records.  We can't move ahead of where we are until we conquer the next horizon.  We're always on the cusp of something life-changing, we're always around the corner from being able to predict many things, cure many things and destroy even more.  The ability to communicate even our dreams and desires, to connect with others on levels more intimate than any other species.  This is, sadly, also our downfall, because of differing opinions.  When people wake up and realize that their opinions are fine, as long as they're not used as hammers to control others, our entire world would be able to live in peace.  Until then, not so much.  And the ones causing the division are the ones using their opinion to attempt to rule over others' lives and happiness.  It's selfish, it's self-serving, it's harmful and it's just nasty, yet any who disagree are quickly put away by the persecution complex and told they're miserable, trying to spoil others' fun.  After all, it's only Christians who should have the privileges denied to all others, right?  You just never seem able to understand that if religion remained in its place, we'd have nothing to complain about.  And it's not just Atheists complaining, there are plenty of religious secularists.  Mainly the ones who actually understand that it protects them as much as anyone.  Those who understand that they can cherish their spiritual views while allowing others the same courtesy.  Those who actually understand that their rights come with responsibilities and those you respect will respect you in return.  Those whom you dismiss and disrespect owe you nothing at all, but returning the favor.  Stop being hypocrites and we'll stop calling you out on your hypocrisy.  Stop bringing your religion into the public discussion and it will not be disrespected.  Stop trying to force your opinion on those who have no pony in the race and you will be left in peace.  But don't expect us to roll over and play dead, this is the only life we're sure of and we're sure not going to waste it on someone's silliness.  We are adults and we can steer our own lives and spirits, thank you very much!

moral codes superior to the bible long pre-date xianity and the OT. like the way RS did not quote scripture and instructions on how to beat slaves, stone women and people that work on the Sabbath, eat shrimp, wear mixed threads, allow incest, slaughter whole populations, drown the whole frikkin planet, doom women to period pain and pain of child birth. I will start quoting scripture to show how immoral and evil the disgusting bible is.

why is ml sourcing Jewish journals now?

Xian cases of kiddie fiddling are a world-wide pandemic, no single group in history have systematically molested more children than xians have, that is the facts nobody can dispute.

RS shouldn't you prove a god exists before you claim we are created in its image. So you saying molesterers are created in God's image or some other image??

I just got a chance to read the first link posted by ML.  All I can say is, I'm glad the author as least was able to name his logical fallacy!  Yes, a slippery slope is the fallaciousness of an argument ML and starts right off admitting it!  How convenient for us!

Definition of Slippery Slope

Read carefully grasshopper.

as far as the thread title goes I would according to the amount of convictions recorded around the globe I would have to say no. Conversely according the amount of convictions recorded around the globe clearly you would have to say religion and particularly Christianity does.

just sticking with the facts.
