So this may be an unusual topic but I finally got my boys application for registration and I needed suggestion on good AKC names. This is my first registered dog and aside from his call name (Kado) I have no idea what to call him. His mother's name is Astrid Von Sonnenschein and his sire's name is Meza's Sultan. Here is some pics of my boy if someone can please give me ideas on good AKC names it would be appreciated.

You should look in your boy's pedigree and see if any of the names is something you like...What I do is pick out and write down any names that you like at all..then look at them for a bit and start to cut them down til you have less and less until you find one you like...
Have you looked at any dog magazines...Pedigrees...etc...It will give you many names that might or might not suit you...

In Germany we tend to use either our own name ( in your case maybe Markwick´s ) or a conjunction to the place where we live ( town, street, river, mountain, special places ).

Ok...that could be interesting. His call name is Kado and I like the name Sultan so I could do
Alvin's Sultan
Texas Sultan
Sultan's Amethyst
Sultan's Golden Crest
Sultan's Dark Knight
Sultan's Ace In The Hole
Sultan's Wind Of Change
Sultan's Prime Choice
Sultan's Heaven Sent
Sultan's Steal My Heart
Sultan's California Dream (where my husband grew up)

AKC limits the kennel name to 16 letters total including spaces and not all names are available. If you want a recurring kennel name then check availability. Some of the German type kennel names are too long for the AKC .. such as "von der Zeuterner Himmelreich". Because German kennel names tend to be long the dogs birth name or litter name is generally short (as it should be). Fero von der Zeuterner Himmelreich der is optional in this case I think and vom can also be used. As an American breeder I prefer a name with the kennel name first followed by the birth or litter name ( WarBonnet Erny ) or WarBonnet's Erny. Hessel from ODonnell's is a dog from the Netherlands and Fargo Mariko Bohemia is Czech with the birth name first followed by the Kennel name ( most common in European dogs ). The vom and von is from and of in the German names with some "of the" type name. Vello zu den Sieben-Faulen is an example with a hyphenated name in German. The German rules on noun gender and the words (verbs, consonants) that go with them to be correct are quite complicated unless you are of course German. Then it is common knowledge. Some American breeders deviate from the normal and use a shorter kennel name and then a longer birth name or litter name ( WarBonnet's Etta James ) or Johnny Cash (from, of, or vom) Mystical Haus. The AKC type GSD often have very long and flowery names.

So much simpler in the UK, where litters are given names by their
breeders, using their own registered Kennel Names (Affixes), and
sold as such:
EG Alfo of Swiftville
Alonso " Swiftville
Adrian " "
Ailsa " "
Arya " "
[names of pups and kennel entirely made up for this example !]
The new owner then Registers change of ownership of the pup with
the Kennel Club under that existing name - so their only task is to find
a call-name they like. Also has benefits for anyone researching the
pedigree at a later date !

@Hundmutter The benefit of this in pedigree research is undeniable.
@dmarkwick If you want a german sounding name I`ll be more than happy to help.

@SporterGSD that would be great. Thank you. I know I want to keep Sultan in the name and his call name is Kado but not sure about all the von, vom and all that.
