I saw it in action at a club trial yesterday. I watched as an SV judge put dogs with glaringly obvious conformation faults in first place. The only thing the dogs had in common was the colour of the shirt the handler was wearing. One dog had the most horrible hooked tail I'v ever seen. The judge never even mentioned it in his critique. Another had such loose hocks that the hocks were banging together and the dog could barely support itself in a stack!
It got so spectators could predict who was going to take first place by looking to see what kennel the handler was from!

Corruption takes many forms in the pet and dog "industry". You must decide what is best for your dog and for you .. hopefully you will err on the side of your dog and ignore dog industry poop (pun intended). Most dog organizations, breed clubs, service industries, registries, and professions ( vets, etc.) serve themselves first, their patrons second, and the dogs get dead last priority in the pecking order. Dogs don't have money or credit cards and dogs can't vote or sue the "dog businesses" in court. Dogs have no financial or political power except through their owners who unfortunately often see their dogs and their dog's needs as an extension of their own wants and needs. What a dog needs and what a dog owner wants are often very different things. I helped raise a special needs child (my son) and I can tell you that when someone told me all that they wanted was that which was best for my son .. my BS alarm went off .. usually what they really meant is what they wanted wa that which was easiest or cheapest for them. A healthy dose of skepticism when a vet tells you that your dog needs 12 month a year heartworm control in NC is justified and will serve your dog's needs well.

The FCI standards are an extension of the European breed clubs and the VDH and the SV are the primary drivers in the GSD standards .. look at who is on the GSD steering committees and Germany has the " rights" to the GSD in the FCI.

As long as the thread doesn't get nasty it will stay. Moved it to our Main forum as the Title says "Dog Corruption", not "GSD Corruption"

Why not keep the pic? It´s worth a second and a third thought...
It´s like always - rules and regulations for any breed are written down in a standard, the breed club is a constitution, but the executive body are single people (judges), and the breeders (in this case showline breeders) are single persons, too. They tend to "interprete".
We are humans...
I like to win, too, but I´m pretty aware that the word "standard" doesn´t mean "winner", and that the word "working ability" doesn´t mean "points".
At the end of the day only the breeder decides about dam and sire, nobody else. A lot of people forgot.

The FCI has a "owner country" for each breed the GSD is Germany, the Mal is I think Belgium, and not sure but the Poodle is I think France. If a country is not an FCI member they do not get to steer their breeds. The USA is not an FCI member and the AKC would be the member if the USA was in the FCI. The German member is the VDH. The former British colonies and the British colonial empire countries tend to follow the older British registries or run their own ( such as the AKC ). The FCI is an extension of the European breed clubs and registries such that if you join the FCI ( one member per nation ) the Europeans have gained control of the breed specs for dogs in the member nation. The AKC has no need to join the FCI as the AKC has a better deal working for itself and printing money through registrations and pedigrees. Thus the GSD and other breeds inthe AKC are independent ( as they want to be ) from the FCI rules and breed descriptions. If you look at the FCI's structure and staff you will see that the FC I is neither as powerful nor as rich as the AKC ( although that has been in some decline I think).
