Hi - I was wondering if any of you have ever had a mating take place where the dogs have been separated by kennels or fence? I have heard of it happening but I am wondering if its a myth. Seems a little unlikely due to the acrobatics involved but hey you never know. Have any of you ever witnessed it or is it truely a myth? Thanks!

Yep I saw one of my mom's field champion Weim bitches get tied through a fence. She had 14 Weim/GSD pups. All of her litters after that consisted of only 2 or 3 pups.

I have also heard of it happening, but never witnessed it and never heard about it first-hand. I still don't take chances with females in heat, they are not kept next to an intact male. I have personally known females to climb over, dig under and go through kennel fencing to get to males, and vice-versa. molly

I've never witnessed it but definately heard of it over and over again. My stud can hop an 8 foot fence. Better look at the roof too. And ,is there a way to tunnel in? NOT a myth, The last time one of my { usually un co-operative bitches } was in season,my male attempted to be on her like white on rice and she did her absolute best to put herself in his path through the fence. Good thing I interupted that and learned my lesson. After all these years you'd think I would have seen that coming but it snuck upon me. Fortunately, I avoided an oops litter. If you are refering to a bitch you have ,be careful. Those little demons are more determined than a teen age boy on a hot summer night at the local drive in movie theater,or so I've heard.

I wasn't present but have had it happen. Very nasty what happened to the male's sheath. His penis was sticking out a slice have way up the side when I found it. It was his first breeding. I had just gotten home from Germany with my new dog, the dog of my dreams, after a long trip. I didn't realize the female had come in early while I was gone. A couple months after the wound healed and the stiches were gone, the wound abcessed (the night before the '98 Sieger Show he was entered in, of course). He couldn't urinate so had to have emergency surgery at a strang (to me) but highly recommended vet hospital. He seemed fine the next day except for the small bump and bare patch on his leg from the anesthesia (I TOLD them NOT to shave his leg!) so I did not scratch him. I knew he wouldn't do very well with that bump, but wanted everyone to see my beautiful sable working dog. The judge (Messler) apologized PUBLICLY for not being able to give him the critique my dog deserved because of the "bump" and again to me in the bar afterwards. I was so honored and so touched by his critique and his kind words later that I probably left that show almost as happy as the owners of the winning male! Pallo was never the same, I think, as a breeding dog, as he would have been if not injured that first time, although he was a good producer as long as the female stood well. I have some frozen semen from him stuck away for the future... :))) shelley

Thank you all for your replies. I didn't really think it could happen. No, I don't have any females in heat or anything right now. I really was just curious because of the things I had heard and wanted to hear from people who actually knew. Thanks!
