My female GSD is experiencing some dry skin issues. Her outercoat appears to be in very good shape, but she just seems to have dry skin, and she is constantly shedding undercoat. Is this something that can be attributed to dry heat inside the house? It has seemed to me that our heat has been more "dry" than normal this year. Thanks for any help or advice.

I experienced the same last year. . My veterinarian recommended a product called ALLERDERM EFA-Z® PLUS made by VIRBAC. It has eliminated the dry skin and also stops hot spots my dogs got in the summer months.

MY DOG JORN WAS JUST AT THE VET WITH THE SAME PROBLEM.
THE VET GAVE ME OMEGA-3 SKIN FORMULA. WE OPEN THE LARGE CAPSULE & PUT IT ON HIS FOOD ONCE DAILY.HE SAID IT WILL TAKE ABOUT 2 MONTHS TO SEE A SIGNIFIGANT DIFFERENCE..
SOME DOGS JUST HAVE IT WORSE THAN OTHERS, BUT ITS VERY COMMON , ESPECIALLY WITH DRY FOOD..

A wise person once told me when dealing with skin and coat issues treat it from the inside. If this isn't an ongoing issue, based on what you said, it isn't, I suggest fish oil capsules. As a daily supplement all my GSDs and one cat get fish oil capsules. For the dogs 2400mgs a day. The cat is significantly less. I don't open the capsules because my dogs take them like they are treats, they love them.

Thanks for the replies. I am glad to know that someone else has experienced the same things. I will now try and get her straightened out.

DeesWolf,
How much do you give your cat. I have always been told olive oil or corn oil on their food(dog/cat). I would like to try that on both my dog's and cat if you wouldn't mind telling me the dosage on the cat.

The cat gets one 100mg capsule on her food each day. I have to open the capsule as she doesn't consider it a treat like the dogs do.
