Question about my dogs pedigree - Page 1

So I have what is an interesting question for me.  A couple months ago I got the opportunity to buy a male German shepherd from some people I met who could no longer keep him.  They claimed to have gotten him from a breeder but never got around to registering him.  They gave me the breeders name and contact so I have been talking with him about the papers and he has gotten the replacement papers and sending them off so I can finish registering him.  I asked for his parents names so I could look them up because I wanted to know what his breeding is and what I should start looking at training him in.  I do not have a computer so I am unable to copy their pages but I have been able to look them both up on this site.  His sires name is Mezas Sultan and his dam is Astrid Von sonnenschein........so I can give my opinion but want to know others opinions of his pedigree.  I see that both his parents and grandparents have not had the health testing or training and titling breeding dogs should have.  That tells me my Kado comes from a backyard breeder as well as the breeder does not seem concerned about what happens to him.  It seems that before the grandparents there was some V, VA and a Sieger in the bloodline.  I don't know anything about names.  There is also sch3 and IPO.  I was wondering if someone had help me break down his pedigree.  Maybe tell me some about his breeding or lines.  Just any info you can give me from his pedigree that I may have missed negative or positive would be great.  I am thinking I should try training my boy in schutzhund.  I know both are line bred.  What would be the negatives with that?

Not all titles and health tests are listed; that doesn't *necessarily* mean they weren't done.

Jen is asking for the replacement papers, there we may find titles and health tests not registered on this board.
Your dog is out of pure German showline ancestors, imported to the states in the greatgrand generation (3).
Sire and dam are linebred to "famous" ancestors, absolutely normal.
I didn´t run a mating check, though.
The breeder of your dog doesn´t need to be a BYB, but might be a "normal" AKC breeder. They simply don´t need to title/health test their dogs - we will see.

About your ideas of training in Schutzhund - DO IT ! Even if the parents are not titled, your dog might be suitable to do so. Although he is out of "showlines" only, some of his ancestors have been really good dogs. I`d give it a try. Even if your dog is not suitable for IPO, there are a lot of dog sports out there. It´s only important, that your dog and you have fun, nothing else. Whatever you do, it will tighten the bond between you and your dog.

Neither dog is listed on the OFA site, so they probably didn't have the minimum of hip or elbow xrays. Maybe you can find the breeder and ask if he or she had any health tests done?

Another suggestion is to contact the person who copied the dogs' pedigrees to this forum. Lelo is the screen name and you should be able to send him or her a pm via this forum by clicking on the envelpoe at the top of this page. Not sure if that will work with your phone. You can also search with Lelo's screen name to see posts he may have made here or other dogs he might have copied here. Good luck.

Thank you for everyone's help.  I have asked the breeder and he has never answered me about the health testing.  I am thinking from my interaction with him that he hasn't done any testing.  Kado is not actually registered yet I am getting the application for registering him.  They should be sent off next week.  I will go ahead and register him even though I know he probably isn't breeding quality he needs to be registered to enter shows right?  I figure I am going to show him for a rating train him In schutzhund then might further his training in either personal protection (if he tests well for that) or competitive obedience.  I will get his BH and hips and elbows checked.  Even with not breeding I can get experience and start meeting people. :)
