what do you expect to see and hear from a new prospective member, (nothing right).
i am not going to just watch so rule that out, it is a long drive, i can stay at home and watch a video and save fuel.
i am taking my dog and expect it to be evaluated fairly and worked.
i will not allow the whip cracking thing for practical safety reasons away from the club.
that is 3 consecutive I statements, do you consider that unnacceptable that a new guy would have his own expectations, limits, opinions and demands. if so, why?
the man behind the club (not currently serving in any official club role) as far as i can tell from his credentials in ipo is the real deal.
was thinking i would do some obed, the jump, the A-frame and some prey bites.
want to desensitise the dog to crowds of dogs by going to the local pet club a few times first. not sure if this will make it worse as he tries to be an azz-hat to other males.

I don't mind expectations but I do expect the new person (who has never titled a dog in protection sports) to learn and listen to how I will be able to meet those expectations with their dog. Depending on what kind of raw potential their dog has, the owners can make or break those expectations by listenting to the trainer or not.
If their demands hinder or are even counter productive to the end expectation (desired title?) then I expect the newbie to listen to me.
You need the club more than the club needs you.

You can have all the expectations you want of a new club...but the truth is you're going to THEIR club and you need to mind their rules...So before you do anything I would be sure to ask someone...Perference would be the club President or Training Director...
I have been to new clubs where they tell you NOT to even bring your dog with you...I know right off the bat that this won't be for me...
Remember: Their Club...Their Rules...If you don't like them...Don't stay and Don't join...
I'm with you though and if I'm going to a club...New? or Old? I'm gonna bring my dog/dogs and I want to work some...But I know most of the people in Schutzhund...so...

thanks for thoughts, i think i hear you.
i understand i am presenting as the nobody from nowhere with a combative personality and an azz-hat dog.
it is their club and their rules no doubt but on the flip-side it is my dog, nothing gets precedence over that, just means it might be a very short ipo career, been there done that before.
as for going as a spectator, i think that is just rude if someone is doing a 6 hour round trip...are we working dog people or are we not working dog people?
anyhoo, i have talked to the club founder a few times from germany, he is a straight shooter and has his own controversy as anyone successful does.
i trust the guy because he has done it and spent his whole life doing it, shame he won't be there in person cos i can actually communicate with the man.

I know it´s not easy for you , but try to be kind, listen to them, don´t talk too much, and be honest about your dog.
You are the newbie, they don´t need you.
Otherwise - nobody on earth is going to do anything with my dogs I don´t want. My dogs - my rules.
Try to tell them that you want an evaluation and support, but no screwed up dog at the end of the day.
As soon as you don´t feel comfortable, stop ( or even don´t start ) training - and watch the helper working some dogs beforehand.
Have a lot of fun!

Joan, of course Susie has given correct advice as usual. However, will vk pay attention to what she and others have said here MANY times; advice that was honestly intended to give him help with his dog? We've both seen the same thing happening on at least one other forum. He has had absolutely no lack of sincere dog owners trying to give him good advice. Will it stick? Hasn't so far but hope does spring eternal after all, doesn't it?
