I am looking for a partner who is VERY competent with creating websites and working with access data bases. I am planning on creating a pay-website for DDR dogs. I am tired of people stealing my WinSIS-X info and also people putting incorrect info on websites. I am looking for someone to create me a website like pedigreedatabase, only I will charge for the DDR information.
If you are interested please email me privately yhecht@kc.rr.com

I am incompetent on the internet...but I think you have a GREAT idea! Sarah Slader-Waldorf

You might be a little late with your idea. There is a person working on providing information on east german shepherd dogs for Free

That would be me. I have a really huge collection of books (about 80 lbs), going all the way back to about 1953 or so, as I recall. I am tired of having them in storage, doing nothing. People have offered to buy them, but they are not for sale. I am more interested in making the information available to the general public for the benefit and conservation of the DDR DSH. So, they will be offered for the purposes of public education through a non-profit I have already set up for that purpose. I've already put a bunch of money into this project and Kris Kotsopoulos of "von Forell" kennels in Australia has also very generously contributed $1,000.
It's a nice idea to have a pay-per-view database, but I don't think it would work. There just isn't enough demand to make it worthwhile, financially speaking. Well, that is my opinion...Take it or leave it. We do not own the information, anyway. We may own the form of distribution or compilation, but the data is more in the order of public domain.
At the moment, I don't plan to compile everything into a database, but I do plan to actually scan the books all into an Adobe Acrobat format, logically indexed. People will teach themselves how to use them, and if there is enough interest, some interesting projects could come out of it. The books I have are Nachzuchtbeurteilungs, Koerbucher, and Siegerbooks, for the most part, but there are also some "Rundscreiben" and other papers containing breed warnings, recommendations, and comments. There are also a lot of magazines there. Anyone interested? You can email me privately and I will put you on a list to let you know when this project is going online. I just bought a new HP scanner the other day, and I've already arranged for the server to get the information online.

By the way, I am not going to play favorites with this project. Everyone is welcome, on an equal basis. It's not about me, and it's not about liking anyone or everyone. It's about the dogs, and it's for them.

Oh.. One more thing.. I have wanted to do this for YEARS!!!! Almost since the time I got the books! But the time was not there to do it. I was working full time and managing a licensed home kennel business. I had myself booked up beyond capacity. I still have a lot of issues and have my time booked up most days. But there will be time to build this site up on a steady basis. I'll try to get as much out as possible, initially.
Like I said, it's about the dogs, and it's for them. IT ALWAYS WAS, at least for me.
I was very lucky to get these books. They were never in wide distribution. I was able to get a near-complete collection from one source.
Most likely the books will have to be disassembled in order to do this properly. They're valuable in their original form, but I think it's more important to get the information into a digital form that can be used by many people.

You may run into some copyright issues if you start scanning and posting from books and magizines.

I am not going to have a lot of time to chit-chat with people, or kick ideas around, horse-trade and so forth. I am also not out to make buddies or pen-pals, here. Please understand that I just do not have the time for this sort of thing right now. If I spend a lot of time chatting online with people, it will only slow down projects like this one. I am not interested in business propositions, and I am not in the dog business anymore. Just send me an email to state your interest, and I will add you to a list so that I can notify you when the website is up and running.

What's going to happen? Is the East German government going to sue me? I doubt it very much, considering that they do not exist anymore. Besides.. This is not being done for profit. Even the cost of running the server I will have to pay for out of my own pocket for the foreseeable future.

Well, I have ALL the DDR Körbuchen, ALL the DDR NZB's, ALL the DDR Sieger Shows, a 1949 Merseburgbook, plus I have 50 years of "DER Hund" magazine (published in East Germany (1951-1990)) containing tons and tons of information and pictures on DDR dogs, concentrating on the GSD in the early years.
I have been working on this for about 10 years, and the information is already in my WinSIS-X database.
My idea is not to make a lot of money, but to provide an accurate database for DDR dogs at a very reasonable rate.
The WinSIS-X database is known worldwide for it's accuracy. You will not need to try to track down the dogs yourself. If they are not in the database, I will look them up for you. I have probably spent well over 500 hours working on this database. My main concern was in getting the correct information.
Wouldn't you spend a dollar or two to get all the accurate information for a dog, including his parents, events that he participated in, breed survey, titles, picture...etc?
When I first started out, I could not get people to even sell me copies of their DDR books. Now I will be offering the same information for a very small amount of money. I just do not want other people to steal it and make a profit from all my work over the years.
