I just found this on the net and can't help but post it here. This is my female's son Nocturne's Gabriel qualifying at the Eukanuba OB Invitational Classic  held in Dec in Orlando. He's at minute 13 I think and there is another GSD that qualified too. A very exciting trial for AKC OB enthusiasts. I think AKC OB trainers will appreciate all the work that went into training all these dogs. Thanks for looking.

Thanks for sharing, that is a real nice dog indeed. I am not expert on those titles but with my little knowledge I see a confident, well trained and very good obedient performer.

I like him a lot and I enjoyed the show/test, I never seen one before

I have a question please,

I see a smell detection test. I don't see the handlers make the dog smell the object they should find out from several objects, so how does the dog recognize that object and fetches it to the handler?

The dog needs to find the article by identifying the only one in the pile that has been recently handled by the owner- the "hot" scent  vs the "cold" scents of the articles that have not been recenlty touched. Notice how she rubbed the dumbell between her hands to impregnant it with her scent. The judge selects from all the owner's articles the one that the handler touches in the ring. They normally use tongs to pick the scent article from the rest, put it on a tray, hand it off to the handler who puts his/her hot scent on the item, Then the judge places the item in the pile, the dog can't watch. Then the dog must pick the right one and take it back to the owner, sit in front holding it until the judge give the signal to the handler to take it.

It takes a great owner/handler/trainer to bring out the best in any dog.

Thanks for the explanation, yes I agree, and breeder/owner/trainer and handler must be feeling proud of the achievement/performance. I imagine it would be a prime experience to take part in such a show (is it called a show?)

It's called a trial, Ibrahim. It's a really big deal in the AKC world. The entries must be invited based on their accumulated OB scores and titles earned.

Yes, he's out of my bitch. I am not his breeder of record, his litter was whelped 7 weeks before I owned her.
