Q Man

I would like to hear what people pay for a "Health Certificate"...Say to fly a dog within the U.S....and/or International...

I know when I was in Florida I'd pay around $25 and that's even "if" the vet would charge me for it...We then moved to Michigan and there the vets would charge about $35 and have even been given the "Health Certificate" before...Now that we're in Tennessee I had to fly out a couple of puppies recently and checked around and found out the the going price was $70...but they said that they had to do Fecal Exams...and so on...then actually took a couple puppies in for them to be checked and get their "Health Certificates"...Got the bill and it was $80 per dog...Then looked at the bill to see what they did and saw nothing about a Fecal Exam...Asked about it and was told..."NO" they don't do Fecal Exams...So what did they do for $80....? What's the deal...

Have now been to 14 different Vets here in Tennessee...Still haven't found one that is good enough to be called "MY VET"...

X-Rays for Hips/Elbows...and OFA's have been quoted $500 to $600...Probably NOT including the OFA fee...What's the deal...

Walked into one vet's here (without a dog)...Just wanted to check out the vet and was asked what breed of dog I had...I said German Shepherd...and was told the vet didn't see German Shepherds unless they'd been coming in and being seen since they were little puppies...What's the deal...

Health cert, talking about the one required for flying a dog - $35

OFA xrays (hips and elbows, OFA positioning) done by my vet (digital) - $120

fecal exam - $19

vaccines are usually $19-$25, they will discount for multiple (like if I bring in more than one dog) and for an exam fee if I'm just coming in for vaccines and don't really need an exam b/c the dog's not sick

One twenty five total for hips and elbows together? Where's your vet, vkgsd?

West Michigan. Low cost of living, but high unemployment and very low wages/salaries compared to other parts of the country!

The $120 was a guess. Last x-rays I had done were May 2014 and I paid $160 but I they did hips, both elbows, tail (dog has a "kink") and teeth (pulled a retained puppy canine and checking for the adult tooth).

They also charge the SAME for a traditional spay vs. an OSS. I don't own intact females but I know many that want to keep hormones and are doing OSS vs. traditional spay.

I recently had a male neutered for $140. Also my rescue pit bull mix tore her foot open somehow and had to have surgery to repair it. The surgery including overnight stay, bandage changes, stitches removal, and all follow up were about $120 total.

One of the vets at the practice helps our rescue (and allows the rescue to carry a balance if we're working on some sick animals).

Im 30 miles outside of Lou, Ky.  There are 2 vets in my small town and one charges $10 for a health certif, the other charges $35 for HC.  This is just for the cert, no fecal exam.  I just did OFAs for hips last week, it was $180 just for the hips, her elbows were already done by previous owner.

Looks like I need to go vet shopping. I'm here in Florida and my vet wants $600 to do OFA x-rays on my Malinois. Cost of our annual vaccinations and HW check? $150. I haven't shipped a dog out but I can only imagine what they would want for a health certificate.

Geezzzzz! Quite jealous of these under $200 h/e xrays for OFA! I paid close to $500 for mine, AND she did a HORRIBLE job on the positioning! Recieved Fair, had them done somewhere else and got Excellent. Health certs are $25, PennHip is $350.
