I don't think this is true....from rabies free country you can shipp puppies without rabies shot, so you can shipp at 8 weeks.

here is the link to the CDC http://www.cdc.gov/animalimportation/dogs.html

from all european union countries it is true, not all airline people know, someon from kuwait also took 8 weeks old pup from me as extra luggage last week, that is at own risk or breeders can write fake date of birth in book

these are the new rules, believe it or not,

Duke, I am interested to know exactly what has changed? Maybe I am not aware of? Maybe it is the airlines who will not accept puppies at 8 weeks anymore? This also changed with air Canada, it was always 8 weeks now changed to 12 weeks!

The rule change is this: a dog you are going to import for re-sale has to have their vaccinations up to day including rabies. In this case they have to be 6 months or older UNLESS, they are for research, personal companions, or going to the vet for treatment.

We are amending the regulations to implement an amendment to the Animal Welfare Act (AWA). The Food, Conservation, and Energy Act of 2008 added a new section to the AWA to restrict the importation of certain live dogs. Consistent with this amendment, this rule prohibits the importation of dogs, with limited exceptions, from any part of the world into the continental United States or Hawaii for purposes of resale, research, or veterinary treatment, unless the dogs are in good health, have received all necessary vaccinations, and are at least 6 months of age. This action is necessary to implement the amendment to the AWA and will help to ensure the welfare of imported dogs.

So you can still import puppies eight weeks and older if they are for you to have as a personal companion. You just can't legaly resale them until they reach the 6 month mark. So it would mainly impact the breeders who offer importing services for puppies. They can't sale them, they would have to either keep them for six months or have the puppy buyers talk to their contacts instead, so the purchase still falls under 'personal companion'. At least that is how I look at it.
