Hello everyone,

I need your help, I have a 10 month German Shepherd that I want to register with the AKC. I'm still in germany because im stationed here, but will returning to the states in about 8 months. I have his pink SV papers the breeder gave me, on the back of them it has my name and address printed on it in the number 1 spot. Does this mean that my dog is already in my name?

I read a forum on here awhile ago on this subject but it was in 2011 I believe.... she had lab tests taken from him when he was a puppy, but i have no idea what happened after that....the papers are all in german. I know the AKC requires a DNA test, so I will more than likely just do another.

Any other adivce on this process would be great! Thank you!

If the previous owner signed on the line that shows you are the new owner, you are fine.

Regarding the DNA test, I believe the AKC requires a DNA sample only if you plan to breed the dog.

If you want to register your import pup with AKC, you will need a letter from SV showing you exported it (Beicheinegung)*sp* You can buy this letter after you get home to USA, because I think the address on the letter needs to match your USA address.. not sure on that point though.

When you get back to USA, and have a USA address, go to AKC website and follow directions to register the pup.

Basically, you send copies of the german SV papers, the SV letter, 2 pictures of the dog, money, and the AKC foreign registration app, and you get AKC papers.

I think they do require a new DNA test to register, but it has directions on the second page of the form.

If you have a receipt from the german breeder when you bought the dog, that would probably be helpful, in case of address changes.

Breeder should have signed off on the back page of pink papers already. If not, get that done before you leave Germany..
