I had a friend give me an opened bag a little while ago because her dogs would not eat it, & mine would not either. Wouldn't touch it. I was very glad I had not paid for it. And it surprised me, as my dogs used to love Orijen...

OH thx Jackie;  was wondering about the smell etc.    Have used it for about 6-8 weeks, and boom, digestive problems with my younger gsd boy, now 18 months, although coming off raw so I kind of am attributing it to that but am not sure at this point???  Others doing OK so far.    Really hate when I have food problems.  Just finished up a 5 day stint of panacur and it started again.  Sooooooo,  not a happy camper at this point.  I do not like to have to question dog food...  Thx for your input,  Nan

I fed it to my dogs for about 2 weeks, 6 months ago; it simply did not work for them (or me for that matter, the smell was appalling).

No problems here. VERY rich, so be very careful. Yes, it smells. It smells like a ton of fish, which is exactly what it is. ;)  I fed it free choice to Aria when she was nursing (I didn't intend to do it that way, but it sounds better than "whenver she felt like it, she'd break into the pantry and eat until her heart was content, so long as I wasn't home to catch her in the act") She looked wonderful for a post-whelp momma- minimal shedding, coat stayed glossy, and she kept a bit of meat on her bones. Very happy with it.

I have feed 6 Fish on and off over the last two years as i tend to rotate through a few of their formulas. My two boys do fantastic on it with the only downside being the stench of the food What Smile If not kept in an air tight container it will funk up a house hehehehheeheheeee...

But it has been said many a times on this board, not all dogs react well to the Orijen products and some dogs do better on the acana version of the Orijen formula... Sorry to hear your having food issues, man that is not a fun experience and I am assuming you are de-worming in the process YUCK (based on you stating you were in between Pancur cycles)

I've tried this food too, went from Natural Balance Fish to Orijen 6 Fish and didn't have any issue.  However, I do not feed it anymore due to lack of reliable supply.  Where I live they run out, frequently.  My suspicion is that its very expensive for stores to carry, so they order the bare-minimum and once its gone they don't get anymore until the next bare-minimum shipment.  If I knew I could get it reliably I would have continued to buy it, but I get the same song and dance from all the resellers with pet shops near me, so I'll never buy it again.

Only a few days after panacur ended the digestive issues started up again, however I did add some ground turkey meat.  Have dropped that now and we will see.   Other 2 dogs doing great on it, probably could use a little more of it to their liking but am trying to get off a little weight.   Now they do get some ground turkey added to the kibble (raw) a small amount once per day in PM feeding only;  works for them.  But the teenage gsd boy cannot seem to take it.  Sooooo, will drop it, good coats and energy though with him.  ??  Thx to all  Nan

Does anyone do a 3 month rotation like Dr. Becker suggests or do you stay with one formua if it works for you??  As my boy is about 7-8 weeks on this, wonder if it is time to change??

Nans,

I do not feed Orijen. But wanted to answer your question about rotating. With Xena, my almost 9 year old,  I do rotate about 3-4 times a year. She does great.. no allergies at all and she switches very well.

With Ice, my almost 2 year old, he does have bad food allergies so at this time I do not rotate with him. I have watched Karen Beckers videos and will probably start rotating him 2-3 times a year.  He is doing good on the food he is on now though.

OK thanks Jyl; am probably looking at something similar for my boy, so far I am thinking the 6 fish is kind of rich for him although my other 2 are doing great, but they are older.??  Will wait and see for a short time then probably switch,  thing is to what??  Thx again Nan
