Mindhunt

Just a rant about stupid neighbors who should not have a wonderful dog.  My next door neighbor ended up owning his girlfriend's Argentine Dogo because she couldn't handle him anymore.  Since they (dad and young daughter who has zero parental supervision) have had him, he has become VERY fear aggressive and the father insists on leaving him off leash to and from his SUV.  It is so sad how he cowers around my neighbor.  As of right now, the dog has been outside in the cool Florida night (in upper 40's from weather that has been unseasonably warm in the 80's).  Very little back yard and cement deck around the pool.  High 6' wooden fencing.  He has been outside barking non-stop since 5pm and it is going on 9pm.  No one is home and this is not the first time he has been left outside while everyone is off doing their own thing.  At least it is not the boiling 90's and humid with only a metal shed to go into to get out of the sun (father thought the metal shed was a great idea for a dog in the hot Florida summer and no water in the pool).  Unfortunately, our animal control will only come out on emergencies after hours.  I have left a copy of our county dog ordinace pertaining to nuisance barking and unsupervised dogs, has not made a dent in some pretty thick numb skulls.  If I call Animal Control, they say they have to tell my neighbor that I called.  Since I have to live next door and he has some rather frightening friends who have records for violent crimes, I am hesitant to call.  I really feel bad for this boy, he was, and probably can be again, a sweet loving dog.  I guess I just needed to vent, I will figure out some way to help that poor dog........

What do AC mean, they HAVE to tell him YOU called ?  Really ?

What does your State / County legisation say about that ?   Over

here  AC or RSPCA would just say they had a complaint from

'neighbours', not which individual neighbour it was.

I really feel for you, there is little more annoying than a constantly

barking dog at all hours, and when you are an animal lover and

also concerned about why the dog is barking, it is awful.

Sorry Mindhunt, I can't suggest any method of dealing with this

situation,  but I do sympathise.

Well thats pathetic that you cannot remain anonymous.  I guess they figure 'less' people will call and make a complaint that way...in the end, the dog suffers.

Maybe you could contact a rescue group, for that breed, and tell them you are worried about what seems quite forsee able,  if the dog is left to his own devices.

It's a shame when people have dogs, just to have them. Especially when the dog can truly become dangerous.

I know when i rescued the Presa Canario a couple years back, that had he been left as he was, someone would have gotten very hurt...if not dead.

sad situation.

I would probably spend time at the fence while they were gone trying to befriend the dog.  talking to him and sailing some treats over the top.

Finally someone came home at 5am and let him in.  The excuse was the younger son "accidentally" left the door open to the backyard and the dog "wanted" to stay outside.  Keep in mind, the weather has been in the upper 70's lower 80's for days and last night was a cold night at 42 which is very cold for this area of Florida.  This is not the first time someone has "accidentally left a door open" or "forgot the dog was outside".  He is a big Argentine Dogo and the house is small, no sure how you can "forget".  These are the same people who had those scary friends who brought over a female Black Mouth Cur in labor so they could party at the neighbors and watch the game on tv.  Unfortunately, AC (Animal Control) is seriously understaffed in my county with 2 full time staff for the entire county.  They have a 3rd part time for weekends.  They will only respond to emergencies after hours and dispatch is not well trained as to what constitutes an emergency (e.g.  Dog in the car during the summer with the windows rolled down?  Is the car in the shade?  Then it is not an emergency).  Their policy is to always let the person know who called to complain, and I do believe it is to cut down on the number of calls.

Call the police instead of AC? There's got to be a basic noise/nuisance ordinance in your town, right?  I don't believe the police would 'have to' tell the people anything--they'd just need to come out, document that the barking is taking place, and then write them a summons. You could always tell the dispatcher that you're 'worried there's something wrong over there, because it's not normal for a dog to be outside barking at 3 am..." even though it sooo often is normal for those neighbors.

Tried that Hexe, unfortunately the police said not their jurisdiction, call animal control.  Our city police have the reputation among all other first responders as the laziest and having the worst moral of all the LEOs.  The joke is if you want to commit a crime and not get caught, do it in the city.....

I would be packing my stuff and moving. And they don't have to tell people who did

complain. When u make the call say u want to stay anonimous, and say there's

suspicious activity over there.  Keep record, date and times and if u can even take

a video with sound of the constant barking because if your in town it's a nuisance.

Unless u call them constantly, they should respond and do something.  If not go over

their head and contact their supervisor or someone else about the dog getting neglected.

At this point unless u see actual neglect u might not get any results.
