I have ISO (the long number) chips in all of my dogs, and just chipped my current litter today. Yet even though ISO they are from two different companies, Datamars and HomeAgain. Well, found out that HomeAgain charges a fee to register the chip.
Is there something like a central database where I could register all/multiple dogs at once, preferable for free?

I do not know of a "free" microchip database. But I use PETLINK... they are fairly inexpensive and will register any brand of microchip. I have a couple pets registered with them.

Thank you Jyl, I will look into it. HomeAgain charges $17.99 per year, which I found out after the fact.

Well Joan, I did not even think of the AKC lost and found option. Will check if they register chips not bought from them. Thanks for the reminder.
I had ordered the HomeAgain ISO chips from Revival as it was much cheaper than the ones I had previously gotten directly from Datamars when they were the only ISO chip supplier in the US few years ago. On the registration sheet from HomeAgain that came with the chips it states clearly that it is a yearly fee. No word of different offering simple vs prime or so. Also states that annual membership fee can be subject to change. Revival did send a different registration option pamplet in the packet (cudos to them).
Want to consider all options; trying to keep them all together in one database if I spend a couple hundred dollars on registration.

AKC does register chips other than their own. I have used their service since it started like it better than Home Again. who want a yearly fee or so it seems as they still send me renewal notices. AKC one time fee for all chips.

Yeah, seems its all about money money and more money..... I dont plan to get one of my dogs lost every year....LOL Its just for the "in-case" things...like accidents, house fires....bolting after wild life, stolen dog, or lost puppy on shipping.
