You may or may not be aware that the German Shepherd Dog Club of America has recently granted the biggest puppy miller in the USA - Andrew Hunte of the Hunte Corporation of Missouri - membership of the GSD Club of America and validation as a legitimate breeder. He is also recognized by the AKC. This man and his organization has caused misery to hundreds of thousands of animals of every breed. One of his biggest boasts as he presented to the GSDCA Board is that he has a new incinerator to dispose of animal remains (presumably those that are defective or are no longer producing enough puppies). His organization has been cited in the past for truckloads of puppies dying in the heat of summer or freezing in winter as they are hauled across country to stock the nations pet shops. He is the WORST of the worst in the misery of puppy mill breeding.
If any of you feel the way that I do about this, please sign the petition that will be presented to the GSDCA. Money talks and Andrew Hunte has a lot of that, so this may be ineffective, but the club needs to know how their acceptance of this monster is viewed by lovers of the breed. Here is the link:

Feel free to crosspost and inform any GSD enthusiast or rescue organization about this injustice

This subject was addressed here a week or so ago. Anyone wanting a bit more information and some URL's on Hunet and his "operation" may want to seach for it and read the previous comments. The thread might now be on page 2, I, Blitzen, intitiated it and I believe I titled it something like - GSDCA grants membership to puppy miller.
It may be worthwhile to note once again the Hunte owns or owned a GSD bred by and handled by Jimmie Moses. Jimmie may or may not have had influence on Hunte's being elected into membership.
Thanks for the URL for the petition. I'll be signing it and passing it along to friends in other breeds all of whom are also disgusted that a puppymiller was granted memberhip in an AKC sanctioned breed club.

Anyone who cares for the welfare of our precious breed should copy, paste and go tot the website and sign the petition. It's a start and hopefully will make a difference. I think it will at least send the message that this kind of bullshit will not be condoned.

There are a lot of large breeders who should be considered puppy mills in North America. They are no different than this person and they are also granted AKC and CKC memberships.

autobahn....you are so right!

AKC is not a club, it's a registery. There are no members. The GSDCA, however, is a breed club that is supported by its membership. My guess is the only thing the Board of Directors will pay much attention to is if members leave that club either by resigning or by allowing their memberships to lapse. Less dues, less money in the treasury. As we know, money talks. Now that he's a member, it would take an act of congress to expel him.
It's a lot easier to say this person and that person is a puppy mill and should not be allowed to join a breed club than it is to actually implement a ban. First, there is no legal definition of a puppy mill. Also, if you've ever served on the board of an AKC sanctioned breed club that has tried to be exclusive when they elect members you will know that it often leads to a lawsuit. Not saying that is why the GSDCA voted in Hunte, just saying that if he were refused and sued, he would most likely have won that suit.
It's just the way things work in the US. We have set a precedence here of suing for everything and anything and there are always attorneys ready and willing to take on these cases. Most judges don't give 2 craps about a dog club. Odds are, if he were determined to do so, Hunte would get in the GSDC one way or another. If denied membership, he could have sued the GSDCA for a number of reasons including interferring with his right to earn a living by defaming his character. Not many rights are held higher in this country that the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

He may be the worst of the worst, but autobahn hit a home run. Even the small breeders who are irresponsibly producing puppies contribute to the problem. This mass producing of dogs is fodder for the politicians.
There is a reason Germany is so strict on breeding. They have seen the handwriting on the wall. I cringe everytime someone says this is America and we can breed and raise dogs any way we want. It's only a matter of time.

Spook, personally I think the German way of breeding 10 litters a year and farming out pg bitches to be whelped elsewhere so as not to enter that count is a lot of breeding too. I only know of a handful of breeders in the US who breed that much.

I'm with you spook. Everytime someone puffs out their chest & says "This is America", I about how our "freedom of choice" created the American Show Shepherd. What a mess.
