Hi I am new to this Forum and would like to hear some knowledge and opinions on this dog. http://m.youtube.com/results?q=york%20vom%20bestorix&sm=3

In this video I am seeing very inexperienced handler and helper circleing around and what not. But as for the dog itself at first it seems like he has decent grips but at other times it seems like he has very poor grips especially on the run and bite and when the helper is circleing around he looses grip but I cant tell if that is the dogs fault or the poor helping/handleing. I am no expert I am very young and would like to take in some knowledge from people who know the breed. Thanks.

Just watched a little of the first video. Too much pressure on the dog, he's being overwhelmed, and not sure of himself.

Hard to tell.  It looks to me like some inexperienced people are just starting out with this dog, he probably doesn't have a good foundation.  He's coming off the sleeve, avoidance, the helper is not bringing out any real power and aggression in the dog and showing the dog how to win, just kind of provoking him and chasing him around with a stick.  I don't like what I see, but I would not write a dog off without seeing a decent training helper work the dog.

Thanks that is what I was thinking Im not into the show line dogs but my father in-law is and he has a daughter out of this male and she does a whole lot of barking but when you get close to her she runs away to a further distance and continues barking. Im guessing is a confidence issue but she also will not let you pet her so its possible she was raised wrong. He saw this video of her dad and he got discouraged because of a comment someone posted on the video saying the dog was weak. I couldnt tell because I thought the helper/handler were not working the dog right.

An average dog has to have his/her confidence built up. Depending on the foundation of the dog, this could take two or three sessions or many months. If the dog has been sport trained and biting/gripping is fun and then suddenly someone puts pressure on it or threatens it, many dogs are going to pause, lose their grip, maybe regrip, or otherwise act unsure. This is where experience and skill comes in to take the dog to the next level. It's really unfair to the dog to judge based on a video with no background on the dog, especially a video like this one with amateur handlers and helpers. God only knows what's gone on behind the scenes.

And obviously the dog is very young lacking experience and confidence.  LIked him a lot though, more training would be great for him with confidence building added to obedience.  Nan

Not sure how old this dog is...but it's seems to be young and the foundation work is very poor...The dog needs to be taught properly and to have it's confidence built up so it can withstand the pressure of working...

It can also be said that Showline dogs do react like this a lot...but a lot of times it's also because of the amount of training that's given their dogs...Usually Showline owners will spend more time on the Showing (Conformation) then the Work...

I would say with this dog more time needs to be spent building up the dogs confidence and teaching a good foundation for the dog to work off of...
