Recently discovered video of one of the most famous and important GSD's in History; Quanto Wienerau.

This dog really looks amazing, much better than dogs of today, look at the nice structure, look at the head. No extremes just a nice, normal classic GSD.

Why don't we see dogs like that anmore ?

We do...I have them.

I saw that video pn Mr. Donald's website, I did not post it here thinking it wouldn't be legal. Anyway though Quanto was one of most influential pillars of GSD we should also keep in mind he had draw backs.

Today you wouldn´t see a stack like that of a current VA or top V dog on any internet platform - every handler doing this "job" would be workless immediately... Shades Smile

( I´m not sure, but I think W. Martin was the "handler" in this movie...)

No disrespect to you, Susie, but the way that dog is stacked also does not lend to "over angulation"....more is better mindset. Perhaps if dogs were still viewed in this moderate stack, the breed would not be n the condition it is today. I would like to see this "handler work" predominant in the ring today. That is, if one must put their dog in the ring. Jmo

I´d like to see the dogs in a "natural" stack, too ( although for comparison the regulated stack is fine ) - I was just kidding - we learned a lot during the last decades ( and that´s the main reason why people shouldn´t believe in pictures only ... ).

I can't really tell much from the video other than I really like Quanto's head. Equal length of skull and muzzle, not too much stop, good ear set and size, tight lips, well developed underjaw, almond shaped dark eyes.

Blitzen, et al:

Many years ago (I think 1985) Dr. Morton Goldfarb presented a seminar at our club here in Bowling Green. At that event he had some 8mm footage of Quanto. As I recall that movie showed Quanto with a bit richer pigmentation. Later, although not related to Quanto, I had the distinct pleasure of visiting with Walter Martin at his kennel and home. I also had the pleasure of dining with him the next year at the Austrian Universal Sieger Show in Reute, Austria. Later that year Dr. Goldfarb, Hans Engles and Walter Martin served as a panel and presented a breed seminar at our club. Amazingly,  that discussion lasted into the wee hours of the morning.  Herr Martin was truly a fine gentleman who, along with his brother, Hermann, contributed greatly to our beloved breed.

Judge might have said stack your dogs and do not touch them, let them natural stack.  They like to do that;  don't bait free stack your dogs.  Yep,  you could tell the handler did not know what to do.  Very pretty dog though, thx for sharing that clip.  Nan
