ok, just wondering what the term would be(your thoughts), if the Male mounted the female, did the "happy dance" and tied, but "as soon" as he went to turn(when lifting his hind leg over her bum) ....they become untied (only about 3 min. after happy dance) What might the proper term be (slip mating or short tie)?

If it was 3 mins as after the happy dance and he stayed on top her and he WAS inside for those 3 mins, I would call that an outside tie. Some males won't turn right away and will stay in "THAT" position as long as the female allows him. I have know of several litter as a result of this kind of breeding. Hope this helps and you get an idea of what I am trying to say.

Yes, Hutchins (I understand what you are saying) it is hard to explain...lol! Thank you for answering!

and that seems to be what happened! He was for sure inside and did "the happy dance/ladder crawl" stayed there a few moments (when done)and then tried to flip his leg over her bum and then slipped out!

I would definitely say that was an outside tie. Of course we all want to get that inside tie, but dont be discouraged just yet. As I said, many litters have resulted from outside ties. Was that the only breeding you did with those two or were you able to get other breedings and if so, did you get a natural inside tie? Please keep me updated. Will be looking forward to hearing if there was a litter or not.
Glad I could help ES.

We were only able to get that breeding (sadly) it was on day 12 of her cycle. After that, she was not having it! Though she would flag high (for a couple days after that) she would snap every time he went to mount her. My daughter and I did try to help him (by holding his bum the day b4 this/when he hit the mark), however he jumped off quickly! The last few days she has been eating like a pig and vomited a couple times. She acts normal other than that and no fevor /has a slight clear oderless discharge. She had morning sickness early with a litter, she had a year and a half ago....so i'm in hope, that this is a good sighn it took!

Rememeber, the fertilizing "action" happens at the beginning in dogs, not the "grande finale" as with people. I would assume her pregnant just like it it had been a 20 minute tie.

Well, here is an update! Not preg! :( Will try one more time this next heat and if a no go, then getting her fixed! On a happy note: My other female did have a litter of New Years Eve/New years pups and are looking/growing GREAT!!!!
