What do y'all think of dog seat belts vs crates?

The seat belts can be chewed pretty easily. I wouldn't trust them as you can't supervise the dog to make sure they aren't chewing the belt while driving at the same time. There are just too many advantages of using a crate in the vehicle to not use them. For those that are heavily opposed to the crates though, the seat belts would be better than nothing at all. Jeff

Imagine your dog in the front seat with those "seatbelts" and you crash and the airbag deploys. Bye bye dog. Crates that are the right size for your dog and that are secure is the best way to go. Also if for some reason your crate gets thrown out of the car during an accident, your dog can be transported to a place alot easier then trying to catch a loose dog. If you have a dog that does not like to be handeled by strangers, being in a crate is safer for everyone. So IMO seatbelts for dogs are not the way to go.

You know with my past GSD's I always crated them, but with my new pup I have been using a seat belt around town & a crate when I go tracking/training. I put him in the back seat (no airbag), but never thought about the possibliity of him chewing the belt or having to be handled by strangers. I think I'll just use the crate from now on. Thanks for opening my eyes!

A puppy seatbelt found its way into my xmas presents. It took the dog 25 seconds to get tangled up in it so the seatbelt was tightly warper around her neck. The seatbelt came off. To be polite i still say I use it.
