My female is 3.5 yeaars old and she is blowing her hair coat right in the middle of winter.......I keep her in at night but in the kennel during the day.....Can someone tell me if this is normal or is she lacking something in her diet?? Any information is surely appreciated ......Thanks.....Rodd

When is she due to come into heat?? Have you had her all her life? Most females will blow their coat 1 -2 months before they go into heat.. this is totally normal... doesn't matter the time of year .. and sometimes warm spells of weather will cause it to happen as well but with the girls, it is their heat cycles..

My females are also blowing their coat. One is fixed and the other is not. I think it might be the length of warm weather we had before the snow came. Other than that I think every female is different when it comes to their cycle. My females never have blown their coats before they come in heat. Note that I said every female is different, and could run their heat cycles differently than another. Hope this helps.

It has been an unusual winter in the southeastern U.S.A. A warm January and a very cold February and all dogs have been in our home for four (4) weeks now. One (1) of my females started blowing her coat two (2) weeks ago, and the second started this week. A male is also beginning to blow his coat. I agree that it seems early by four (4) weeks or so. Perhaps it is the unusual weather this winter. I know that many animals determine the time to shed or make new coats depending on the angle of the sun, but there has been very little sunlight here.
