Hello to all! I am considering importing a puppy from a well known kennel in Germany and wanted to get a "how-to" on the procedure, paperwork, etc. I've never done this before. What paperwork exactly should I ask for? At what age do puppies usually get shipped? I had read somewhere that it was usually 10 weeks, but wanted to confirm that. What is the approximate price of shipping from Germany to the United States? I also wondered how I would go about getting the puppy registered with the AKC. Any advice, suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, MomofBeckett

I haven't asked yet. I wanted to find out the experiences of others first while still discussing the litter.

I've just sent emails today to the breeder so this is a very early exploration.

Thanks. I've contacted the kennel for additional information. I just wanted to see if there is anything I should specifically ask.

When I registered my pink papered German Import male with the AKC I had to take a picture of the dog close-up standing(front) and one from the side. It's $50- if you are going to breed the dog more than 5 times in one year then you must also have him DNA'd(they send you an envelope with a swab enclosed to swab your dogs cheek and it runs $30).

I just imported a puppy from Kirschental Kennels in Germany, she is a kick in the butt. Couldn't ask for a nicer pup! I just asked questions you would ask any breeder. I paid 400 Euros for the shipping but was told it was going up at the 1 st of the year around 20%. She was 8 weeks when she came last week. The paperwork you should ask for is Bescheinigung (transfer of ownership) from the SV. Fuellers provided all this info to me without actually having to ask. I was told by a friend who has imported from Canada the AKC will help me if I can't figure it out. The paperwork will come in about 4-6 weeks. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the information. I'm sure the process will be fine. I was just interested in the experiences of others and wanted to make sure I got all the paperwork I needed for the AKC. It's sometimes hard to get the paperwork in the states, so I didn't know how it would be out of the country :)

AKC now requires DNA for imported dogs. that was changed last year. The only thing is remember a puppy is more likely to soil in their crate so be ready when you pick it up at the airport. Have some cleaning supplies and dry clean towels. Our puppy purchase and importing went wonderfully.
