Hello I was wondering if any of you have a gsd that wheezes once in awhile. My 2 yesr old did when he was about 9 months and has started again once every night. More sound like he breathing deeply up his nose, he does not cough. He up to date on all his shots? Any help is appreciated.

Well I should of included that there is no runny nose, he happy, active. He can be laying on the floor and just start. last about 1-2 minutes then quits.

This may be what is referred to as a "reverse sneeze". Check with the vet. If he is not otherwise ill, that is what it is probably. But, he could have something in his nose, or he could be wheezing. Wheezing will be heard on an exam with a stethoscope and if really bad, can be heard out loud as well. Good luck.

I have chihuahuas, and they do that all the time. I've never seen a shepherd do it, but that doesn't mean it's impossible. The chis do it due to a collapsing trachea, and that's there way of opening it back up...or so I've been told. Also, I've noticed mine doing it worse lately...maybe it's the dry air from the really cold weather?? ok, I know this all might sound stupid, but just trying to help. Best of luck!
