Good afternoon everyone!

We have a question/problem with our 7y.o. dog.

It all started about a month ago, when the dog has started to show some minor loss of appetite problems.

Taking into account, that this was quite usual for this time (it became more hot) and usually our dog had some minor appetite loss, we did not pay too much attention to this.

She has started to compeltely ignore the food about 5 days ago and only eats a little in the evening.

We have brought her to the vet recently and made a full blood tests and had X-ray check.

Vet said, that our dog has some kind of liver destruction (with quite a terminal stage). They said, that this may be some genetical problem.

And this has progressed just now, nothing could have been found half-year ago. We did not have any issues before, which would show any potential problems.

They also said, that there is nothing they can do or offer to do at this moment. The only thing they have offered to us is to give some liver pills, which could help, but they say, that there are no chances.

Dog is quite passive during the day and only shows some positive behaviour in the evening.

Does anyone had something similar or has any ideas what we shall do now?

Thanks!

It's very hard for members to judge without a proper diagnoses and perhaps lab work, but it sounds like this is serious. I would listen your the vet and keep the dog comfortable while enjoying the time you have left with the dog.

What did the blood test show in regard to the liver values:ALT, AST, Alkaline Phosphatase?   Was an ultrasound done? If so, what were the results? What medication did the vet prescribe?

Liver destruction can come from many sources...
Treats and kibble from China
Genetic
Poisons in the environment

Without knowing exactly what the actual issue is, its impossible to pinpoint the causing factor.

Thank you everyone for the responses.

I do not know the exact blood results (will try to obtain these from the vet, but I have received the pictures from the x-ray - please see attached).

The vet has told us to give her the following pills: Essentiale Forte, the ones human usually use in order to help with liver problems.

As for causing factors, this is not poisoning from the environment, as we live in the city and there are many dogs around, noone had the same issues (at least not heard about).

Vet’s final conclusion was, that this is tumor of liver with metastases in the lymph nodes or something.

I'm sorry, but I am not able to interpret the ultrasound images. Did the report show there was definitely a visible tumor? If so, and it is has metastasized, sadly the prognosis isn't good. If this is the case, I am very, very sorry.
