My bitch delivered 10 puppies yesterday.  7 natural, 3 had to be delivered via csection.  Mom and pups are going great.  Mom is a bit overly eager to mother, but still attentive nonetheless.

The whelping room (our sunroom) must have gotten too warm because she kept trying to move them out of the box but had no place to take them.  I've started cooling the room off a bit and all is well.  I'm assuming this is how it happened, but in transporting one of the pups, mom somehow bent (possibly broke?) one of the pup's tails.  Spoke to our vet - she indicated probably nothing could be done, but I've heard of repairs, self repairs, and surgical repairs and wanted to see if anyone has had any experience with damaged tails.

Not the best pic - but you get the idea.  Should I take her in to see if they can repair, attempt self repair/set, or repair later on down the road?

It looks like a dislocated tail vertebrae. I would read up on it.
The pup might be left with a crooked tail, but hopefully it will work just fine.

Good luck :)

I have a pup right now (7 months this week) that has a "kink" in his tail. You can't really see it but if you run your hand down his tail it's impossible to miss, some people are even grossed out by it. Honestly, no one ever noticed until he was 9 weeks old, after the breeder sent me two males and I made my pick, lol. I was playing with him with my co-worker and she said, "did you know his tail is broken?" Nope, news to me!  He has full functionality of it and it doesn't change my pick (I would not have picked the other dog even if I knew about the tail the day they were born).  Once his adult hair came in, I showed him in an SV show and he got a VP rating in the 3-6 month class.  Tomorrow he's getting hip and elbow prelims so I'm having the tail x-rayed.  I would like to confirm that it is a badly healed break that happened at or near birth.  I'm totally fine with that.  If it's some congenital abnormality, we want to know in case that has breeding implications (for the sire or dam and future breeding I mean, my puppy was not purchased or bred as a breeding prospect).
