I am sure this topic has been discussed before and I will do a search to see what, it anything, has been posted. Having said that, does anyone have any new innovative ways to dispose of dog feces? Presently I bag up the poo in a Wal Mart standard bag, then bag that up in a kitchen trash bag and put this out in the trash for pick-up. We pay a monthly charge for our trash pick up and I am afraid that someday the "trash collector guys" may say "no more dog poop please" and refuse to pick it up. That would be a real problem for me if that happens. I know of one person that has 27 or so GSD's and piles the poo "out back" and has a truck come pick it up every two weeks. I would hate to have it around for that long. I have also checked out the small septic tank type things made for dog poo disposal but they are just too small to handle how much I get daily. The get buried in the ground and you fill them with bacteria and they eat away the poo, but as I stated, they don't handle more than what you would get from just one dog. I could be a g'zillion-aire if I could devise a spray that would dissolve dog poo within eight hours, but I haven't yet (darn it:). Has anyone tried burning it somehow. I have tried in a "burn barrel" with wood, but it didn't work too well. Any ideas. Too much to bury and the ground is too hard in the winter anyway. Does anyone know if red worms will "eat" it away, if they are "farmed" in a container, and if so, how long would it take them? Thanks in advance. Oh, another thought. If anyone has a showline strain that doesn't poop and is still alive, I might be interested in a pup or two from them :)

When we were running the kennel, we had exactly this problem. The garbage collector got to the point where he refused to pick it up anymore. My husband and I are pretty handy and we did invent something very novel to deal with it. We used this thing regularly and got rid of mass quantities of dog poop in a very short time.. minutes, really. But I don't know if it would help you or not. The main concern would be what type of surface you have. We had cement.. all cement. It was perfect for us. But nothing is perfect and from time to time we had to fuss with it a bit. We thought about making a commercial unit but somewhat doubted that the demand would be there. It was pretty awesome for us!!!

This is quite interesting.
If you only have a couple of dogs you could flush it down the toilet!
I have researched an incinerator and will be burning mine later this year. I had to get permission from the envioromental people here but they are happy enough. The incinerators are the type used by farmers to burn dead sheep.
Probably not a home solution I'll admit

My son took a back hoe and dug an 8' x 10'x 6' deep hole on back of hill toward back of property...he framed the top off with 2x4 treated and designed top with corrigated tin leaving an opening about 4 foot from top to bottom . Fence around top with pcv(white) and made a door, two part sliding the top with a welded handle made out of two pieces of angle iron, holding a handle from a commercial pooper scooper ,we broke months before...the back of hole to slide the top piece over it , is nailed down on the back side, and the front tin door top, cut longer than 1/2 , slides over the back piece to the edge only opening enough in front to dump the poop with some leaves , occasionally into...pull the sliding tin top door back to front edge and walk away...He put one bag of lime on bottom....other than that , when closed nothing goes into no flies and it doesnt smell at all..No one even knows what it is...been ask is it a toronado shelter, or underground shelter? I often thought if one comes our way, I'd just slide the door open and jump in, but oh my, wading in poop? I guess if my life was on the lline, it wouldnt matter...When full, my son will cover with dirt from pile he dug out and dig me another one.....

Disposal can in your yard. When it gets to your level of disposal remove it and head for your nearest Apartment complexes Dumpster.

Vom Brunhaus,
Thats a great idea. Sounds like something my father would do.
I think burning it if you have those capabilities would be great. How about a compost pile of some sort? Do what we do in the army and dig a big hole to bury it in. Maybe you could use post hole diggers. I myself am in need of finding a better way. Its too cold right now to mess with it though and all the poop is frozen anyway.
I had a neighbor when I lived back in Virginia who would go out with a water hose every couple of days and just spray the piles down to where the poop just broke down and went into the soil. I thought this would maybe ruin the grass but his grass was actually always really thick and green. I think maybe the water probably diluted the feces enough to where it wouldnt harm the growth of the grass.

I get empty 5 gallon buckets and take the lids off and as I am filling the bucket I lay the lid on top to keep rain and bugs out. When the bucket is full I snap the lid on tight and carry out to the trash. This has worked good for me.

Yes Mooseman it works out fine. You can also go to Town House and Codo dumpsters, all the same. I use double trash bags with newspapers on bottom for my outdoor can.
