I bought my pup (Gunner) about 6 weeks ago and was told that he was black/red, but I'm not really sure. He looks a little lighter than the female that I have. Any help would be greatly appreciated=)

Gunner today at 19.3 weeks old... he didn't care to stand still lol
This is Sascha (my female) at around 11 weeks... shes about the same color he is now? or am I seeing things lol??
Sascha at almost 1 year old
Oh and I was told that because he is going to be a big pup that he might need help with his ears... is this true? Both ears have stood, but he's still teething so they did drop even after taping, which he got off that night lol I'm thinking about gluing... any advise on that would be helpful as well=)

Thanks doll=) That is what I'm thinking... the color doesn't matter to me but I would like to have it correct on his Reg and everything.

If a breeder is registering the puppy in their name or even on the puppy papers; you have to pick a color at that time. It is very hard because the colors change so much while they are growing. I don't know if you can change it with the AKC papers or not; it would be interesting to know.

He's registered to me=) I know that the color can be changed on AKC before the dog is bred... I have no idea about after. Right now he is registered as Black/Red I figure I should wait to change it for awhile, just incase red pops out lol.

First of all, nice puppy.
Secondly, he appears little more black and tan instead of black and red, however you might try enhancing his "red" with supplements such as Olewo Carrots. This might help increase his "red".
Thirdly, just out of curiosity, why do you tape your dogs ears if he is only 4 and a half month old? My understanding was that at this time dog is teething and his ears will go up and down. If by 6+ months his ears are not up, than you might consider taping them. For now I would just ensure that he has some bones to chew on and provide enough calcium (cottage cheese, yogurt) as well as collagen supplement (chicken feet have most of it).
Good luck.

The breeder told me that I should tape them after I sent her a pic of him a few weeks ago. I told her that they have been going up and down, they just happenend to be down at the time of the pic. She said that it would just give a little help. I've had Shepherds in the past and have never had to do anything with the ears... But I figured that she knows more than I do and it couldn't hurt. His parents dont have soft ears or anything so I don't know. He has bones to chew on and I give him plain yogert every other day or so (recommended by my vet).

Nice looking pup. does appear more Black/tan than red to me in the pictures, but could get more red look as he matures.
If his ears are already going UP and down, I wouldn't bother them at this point. Might cause damage with him trying to get the tape off than would help.
JMHO.
