My 4 month old pup's ears have been standing since he was 2 months old. At the beginning of the week his left ear was down and now both ears are down. Someone told me if he is teething then this could happen. Do I need to be concerned. Jesse

No you don't have to be concerned. GSD ears go up and down till 7months old. Don't worry they will go up.

YOur lucky, you know they are capable of being up. Now sit back and wait for the teething to end and they will magicly upright themselves again. NO worries.

If it really drives you crazy and you have a few extra bucks, give 500 mg of glucosamine (check with the vet). Like everyone says, if they were up for that long you probably have no problem.

Believe me I understand. My girl's ears went up around nine weeks then tag team ear standing. Never both at the same time. I kept fretting about it and the my friend (a breeder) kept saying don't worry they'll come up. By six months I had so many people saying it's too late. All except my friend. Of course I couldn't relax about it. It would have been so out of character for me!

Anyway, at seven months her ears were down one day, up the next and still up at almost two years.

I wish I could have not sweated it. But, I know when I get another puppy I'll go through the whole agonizing thing again! Sigh. The worst is when people see your floppy eared pup and say, "Oh, is she a shepherd mix?". Aaarrgh!

It'll be fine.

You should take pictures of the ears at different stages: both leaning in, leaning out, one up, then the other up (first one back down), etc.. It would be fun to look back on.

sueincc I do that, fun stuff. I crack up laughing when people can't tell he's a shepherd.
