Hi
I'm new here :).
I'm in south California, looking for excellent GSD breeder with all certifications and show quality dogs, I want a male puppy, have been in contact with few in CA and can't make up my mind about them!
I contacted someone in VA and I could not trust her as I ask her about her name twice but she always answers me without a signature at the bottom of her email not even first name!! I googled her and found some disturbing info about her that had my trust in her go down to zero, now after all of this research I've decided to come to this forum and ask you guys for help.

I'm not set to buy the puppy from CA, I want a great looking GSD that is show quality and I will not mind having him shipped over to me as long as his mom and dad are top quality and registered in the data base.
Can you guys help :).

Thanks in advance.

AKC show or SV show?

by LuckyLoki on 29 March 2014 - 23:03

Hmmm, not a fan of shopping on a forum or the internet for that matter to look for a GSD.  There could be a whole other thread on just that topic. Physically going to breed-specifics events and find out all there is to know about the breed and the various "lines" and examine what it is you want to do with the dog.  Check out local schutzhund clubs for example:
http://www.germanshepherddog.com/    the United Schutzhund Clubs of America you can find MANY in Cali
of course there is AKC and you can certainly find a link to a local club www.akc.org
or the German Shepherd Dog Club of America the AKC parent club for the AMerican bred German Shepherd lines and some other lines of GSDs
Go Conformation shows if that is what you are interested in.  Ask questions to actual people into the breed.
I for one want to see tha parents and their pedigree and paperwork.  If the breeder says NOPE, then I move on

You will find info on the different breeders and then you can call and chat with even more breeders.

Here is a few links from a breeder's web page that highlight some important points:

Ask questions
Be patient - this is a HUGE commitment

Good Luck

Well, I will jump right in here and give you three, actually four recommendation s for the four basic lines, of which three I have first hand knowledge,  and the fourth,  through word of mouth and others who speak highly of,
If you want a German Showline dog, of show quality, from a very experienced breeder, with the history and credentials to back me,
Bullinger Shepherds in Canada, is top notch, honest and will take the time to talk to you, second;
If you wznt working line dog, Spitzenhund Kennel in Missouri is also wonderful,
He has world class dogs, and Parrish also will take the time to talk and provide with great details, he also follows up and converses with you,
    'after' the deal is done;
If you are goung for a nice solud DDR dog, Von Anton out of Florida is also a very honest,  knowledgeable person and has access to what I consider to be some of best DDR dogs available today.
And, I have not yet gotten a czech dog, but if I were to go that route, Joan, right here on this forum, Vom Ron Shepherds Iis where I would turn.
Another breeder with integrity and the knowledge of what she has.
I am sure there are many fantastic breeders out there, but , as I stated, the furst three Ihave first hand experience with, and I will add, wad very good experience,
and, as for the fourth, I have every reason to believe you could not go wrong there.

Hello Beachgirl.

Markobytes asks you which sort of Showing you are interested in.
You'll find there aren't all that many AKC people on PDB - certainly as
far as the GSD is concerned.  Some do post regularly, but the majority
of correspondents are 'working dog' people, who - if into Showing at all -
prefer the SV shows.  So there may be some recommendations coming,
but they are unlikely to include a wide range of breeders on the (AKC-style)
'Showdog' side.

So you need to look / ask elsewhere, too.  But having said that, there is
still a lot that PDB can offer you.  For a start, have a look on the Main
board at the "What do you want from a breeder ?" thred that is being
debated currently.  That will give you some great information about the
better practises of breeders to look for, when choosing a dog / puppy,
irrespective of the eventual function of the one you get.

And stick around later when you have him / her;  this is an excellent place
for medical, behavioural and basic training advice, as well as discussions
on the more advanced training stuff re PPDs, IPO/Schutzhund, etc.

Finally, I would say that one of the strongest messages on here is always that
if you can get to see the dog at its breeders, do so.  It is 110% better than having
a pup shipped to you unseen, cuts out a lot that can go wrong.

Thank you all! I really appreciate it, I think I need to stick around here and read all post to learn more
I'm in awe with the
GSD breed, my family had a perfect one when I was a kid, I'm mainly into the perfect look (coloring, size ..), health and their intelligence, he is going to be a working dog now a show dog, the reason I mentioned the "show" is that I wanted the perfect breeder that have excellent history in breeding not some back alley breeder all what they care about is $$ not the health and honest breeding.
I'm going to check these breeders you mentioned!

Beachgirl, why don't you look in California.

I can never understand why people think that their pup will be extra special if it is shipped to them.

I breed Shepherds and Labrador Retrievers and I can remember being at a fundraiser for the feline

rescue society and I met some people that had what I thought was a mutt, they proudly told me he was shipped in from the midwest, it was a very tall skinny Labrador, I was like......ya.........Sick

What I am getting at is you already have some very nice breeders right near by you, it would be good to

be able to go visit them in person, here is one I found near you that also does training.

I had a lady that was going to purchase a pup from me, and then decided to get one shipped

in from another state, then she gets back to me and asks if I can help train her pup.

It's just that if you have any problems with your pup, it is good to be able to get advice from the breeder.

Here's a link to a kennel that looks reputable.......

Good luck with your search,

I personally know Tracy Bullinger, of Bullinger kennels, from many years ago training schutzhund in the Vancouver area.     I always felt that she really wanted to do the best she could for her dogs, and she has spent much time, effort and money to develop her lines.     I have actually seen a GSD on the street in Vancouver, and asked the owner if the dog was a Bullinger dog - that is how consistent her breedings are.     If I was looking to get a Seiger-type dog, she would be the person that I would talk to first.

As far as working Czech-type dogs, I selected my pup from Vom Ron kennels (Joanro on here), and I'm very happy with him.    You can view his pedigree and see pictures of him, look up Thor v Ron.

Most important is for you to assess what type of dog you want, and for what purpose, then seek a breeder that has that type of dogs.      When talking to a prospective seller (breeder), be VERY honest with your experience and why you want a dog.     That is the only way that a breeder can match you with a puppy.

Good luck, and don't be in a rush to get your new best friend, finding the right puppy takes research, time and effort.
