Hi there!
I'm trying to learn how to read GSD pedigrees. Specifically, I'm wondering when I am reading a pedigree, how to tell WGWL/DDR/Czech dogs apart. Are there certain names/kennels I should be looking for? I know this has been asked before, and I did a search and came up with the following hints. Anything else to add?

"As for the DDR Kennels, there are really very few still breeding straight DDR in the scheme of things. Haus Iris and Grafental are a couple of the best known kennels doing DDR dogs; Ritterberg and Haus Kaiser are a couple of the old Kennels that went straight showlines after the wall came down, but only recently they have had a couple of DDR litters again; Ludwigseck , Poppitz, Haus Fasold, Ellernbach used to be DDR, vom Eis, Schaferliesel was DDR, but folded, Heimaturt, Gleisdreieck was an old respected DDR kennel but they do a lot of east-west now, vd Grauen v Monstab, Feurigen, Geraufer, Haus Dabbert, Teuritzer Eck, Weltwitz, Hellersteg, Hauental, Sperlingsbucht and Steinbusch use a lot of DDR, Dollnitztal, Dalwigerholz, Klockow's, Kloedener Riss, Koboldwiese, Konigswaldereck, Kranich's Hof, vd Moschel, Old Lady, Osterburg Quell, Parchimer Land, Ratsberg, Schotterhof, Schwarzhorn, Schwedenschanzen, Wartenberg, Buttstadter Flur, Wolfshohle, Baruther Land... list goes on

Felsenschloss was almost exclusively DDR, but I don't know if Herr Schawe is still breeding. Clausberg is no longer breeding."

"When I look at pedigrees I look at the names for clues: Max van Tiekerhook - "van" is used for Dutch kennel names. Grim z PS - "z" means Czech as well as weird letters with accent marks on top. But German is German on both sides of the old Wall."

Any help is appreciated :) I'm going to disappear to training with my dogs but will check back in tomorrow.

Thanks in advance!

Tiffany, I believe you are up to date on the DDR kennels by the looks of it- very impressive.  I will leave the others to help you out on the WGWL and Czech.
