I know there's a couple of schutzhund clubs in Spokane, WA but that's still a 3-4 hr. drive from where I live. Does anyone know of any sport or working clubs in the Kootenays area of BC, or any clubs in N.E. WA that are accepting new members? Thanks in advance..

Thanks Mystere, I do know of that club but they are over 300 kms away from where I live, it's actually quicker to get to Spokane. I was hoping maybe there were some people training that are closer.

Wow, that is way off the beaten path. How close are you to the Methow (sp) Valley? Is Calgary close at all? There is a former helper living there ( I say "former" because he's out there all by himself, AFAIK).
If you build it, they will come.
Get some really local folks together, start training, (even if you don't have a helper and even if 2 or 3 disiplines are involved),then get the word out that training is going on. That is how some other fairly isolated training groups have started.
If you build it, they will come.

Mystere, Calgary is over 600 kms and takes more than 7 hrs to drive. Methow Valley, WA is further away than Spokane. I was thinking about the Colville, WA area or in BC the Nelson area.
You are right though about trying to get a group together - but it is nice to have an experienced helper when starting out a young dog. There is a woman locally who used to do schutzhund in CA back in the 80's, at the same time I was really involved in the sport in the Vancouver area and we know some of the same people. I am really hoping to be able to convince her that we should get together and do some sport training, perhaps she will know other people who want to learn schutzhund as well. I'm anxious to get training, the snow is melting and soon I can start laying tracks again!
