Police Dog Bill Hopefully Coming Soon - Page 1

Last October, a man high on meth and coke, and driving a stolen car, brutally stabbed a police dog to death, when apprehended. The courts gave him a sentence of 26 months, but a law that would make the killing or injuring of a police dog or horse a felony punishable by up to 5 years of jail time is still in the works.

For Quanto's handler, Const. Matt Williamson, who raced his dying partner to the vet, the loss remains profound. In his victim-impact statement at Vukmanich's sentence hearing, Williamson said Quanto was not just his protector but also a part of his family, and his death deeply affected them.

His six-year-old daughter, crying, asked: "If Quanto's job was to protect you from bad guys ... is a bad guy going to kill you?"

She now never lets him leave for work without giving him a hug, he said.

 

The sire of my Loki was killed by a perp, he still managed to hang on to the guy despite 3 bullet wounds and died as soon as the perp was cuffed, it was heartrending.

My good friend's K9 Czar was stabbed his first week on the street by a rapist and rushed to the vet.  Approximately 7 years later as they were chasing a perp, my friend heard horrific screaming, when she arrived, Czar had bitten the guy's right arm pretty deeply (they found the knife a little ways away) my friend found Czar gum deep in the perp's crotch holding him, it was the rapist who had stabbed him 7 years ago.  Dogs have amazing memories....unfortunately not much of a sentence for the first stabbing of Czar but I would say Czar got his justice
