Hi Everyone,
Just hoping someone could tell me, is there a database somewhere that you can see dogs that are DNA tested either with AKC or another place.... I looked thru the AKC's website but couldn't find anything. Thanks in advance :)

As far as I know there is no DNA database. I know on AKC it is indicated on the individual dog if they are DNA'd but there is no AKC database.

sorry... one more question then... if a dog is imported from Germany for breeding the AKC requires that dog be DNA'd?
so safe to assume then any (all) Imported sires would all be registered with the AKC?

by joanro on 15 February 2014 - 17:02

Not if the owner hasn't fulfilled the requirements.

would they be able to register puppies if they had not fulfilled the requirements? is it a condition of getting the dogs AKC registration papers?

Parents must be AKC registered before the litter can be.

Parents must get their AKC registration, then at that point you send in their DNA kit, AKC only needs to receive it in house, not process it, before you can register the litter. Once they process the DNA they will send a letter to the owner of the dog with the DNA certification number.

find out who processes the DNA testing and ring them up and ask them.

Leoetta is Correct. That is exactly what I had to do. Must get the AKC registered number first as it has to be on the DNA swab envelope when sent back to AKC.
You can breed, but can't register the puppies with AKC unless you have the parents done with AKC. You might advertise they "Will be AKC" but with so much dishonesty about registered puppies, I wouldn't advertise them as AKC puppies until they actually are.
JMHO.
